K&N Filter upgrade???

I was thinking about putting a K&N on my WR450, just because it really did add some power to my truck. But I'd like to get some input from anyone who has one first. Please let me know if I should or shouldn't. Thanks. ?

I don't have one, but ill give my take on em. They are a performance air filter allowing more air flow thus giving you more hp. For racing you want every advantage, so it would be the extra step.

If your just trail riding and out having a blast on the weekends, I don't know if you would really know the difference. And if your riding in extremely dusty environment, your stock foam saturated in oil will protect your motor better.

Just wanted to add something. K&N filters have been around for along time and are great filters. When I said dusty conditions, I'm referring to following quads around in a drought ?

I had a K&N on my XR400 and after repeated attempts to get the thing to seal properly I got rid of it. I used the foam stick on ring it came with, grease, and even the PC Racings seal and I would always find the thing would pass dirt. I went back to the foam filter and never looked back. I think the foam filter is a better set up as far as sealing goes. They may not flow as well as a K&N but foam I feel has better filtering quality's. The Twin Air set up seems pretty sweet but pricey. I use the factory filter, the way I see it is there is only so much you can do with a piece of foam rubber. JMHO

If you want to get rid of the restriction associated with the stock airfilter set up, just take off the screen. Just think about how much restriction that screen is taking up! ?

If you really don't like it like that, it is cheap to buy a new filter cage.

I would stay away from the K&N filter. They do flow very well but they also let some of the very fine dust by and it can't be good for your motor. Stick with foam.

I feel the same way. I've used them on my XR for a brief while and I would never trust it on my YZF.

If you do a search on K & N you'll see its a pretty varied and heated debate. I'd just stick with foam filters and a good oil. Twin air and Bel ray filter oil keep my motors clean.

Buy foam. The HP advantage will be very slim. They do flow more air(PPM) therefore they flow more dirt/debris.

I have had the same experience with K&N, I have been using UNI for quite some time with the cage that comes with it with excellent results.
