Quiet exhaust, on a budget...

Looking for a quiet exhaust for my 00 yzf 426. The Pro moto billet system of spark arrester with quiet insert seems to be the best option I've found so far. $124.95 for the spark arrestor and $32 for the insert. Any one tried this set up, or know of another alternative? Thanks....

From what I understand, PMB's silent insert simply "fools" sound tests by redirecting the sound towards the ground and away from the DB. From a distance of 100-200 yards the bike will probably sound like stock. If you are concerned with not upsetting all the trree huggers around, this will not do the trick.

I have the promoto billet end cap with the spark arrestor and quiet insert and my uncle has the exact same bike as I do 01 426 but with one difference he has a white brothers e series exhaust and with the insert in mine its wayyy quieter than his but one thing you should be aware of is with the quiet insert in I think there is a need to change jetting or somethin I'm no master mechanic on these newer 4 strokes. because mine the revs die really fast and it is a little harder to start

Be aware that any restriction (i.e. "quieter") type exhaust will affect performance.

go to home depot and get some washers with a opening smaller than what you have coming out the back now and fabricate a baffle for it. thats what i did, got my bike from 102-103 decibels down to 95-96 and I notice no power loss. the bike is a beast, 1hp or 2 isn't going to make a huge difference unless you are a pro racer.

markvan I don't know how strict the law enforcement is in your area but personally I don't think you really have to worry about sound just get a sparkarrestor and you should be ok thats what my uncle did and we lauch right from the DNR station you just gotta be careful not to rev your motor real high when the fuzz is around

My bro's bike was 93.4db with the pmb insert according to the ranger. I am positive that the fmf Q (the old one with the weird end) is way louder than a pmb. I have a pmb on my bike also and I definetly can hear my dad's fmf pipe better than mine.

"06YZ450" What you are saying is just the opposite of what the Pro Moto Billet turn-down insert really accomplishes. The ground, unless it is very reflective like concrete or glass, actually acts as a damper to the sound. By directing the sound waves toward the ground, it takes advantage of the uneven and absorptive characteristics of the ground while not adding any weight to the bike. This sound absorption works at all RPM levels, so it is not just a trick to pass the test. Sound travels in waves like ripples in a pond. These waves continue to travel unless disturbed by an outside source. When sound waves encounter an obstruction, some are reflected, some are absorbed and some interfere with each other and can cancel out or even amplify. Any way you look at it, the amount of energy is overall reduced after being directed towards an semi-absorptive surface like the ground. In my opinion, this is a very good inexpensive way to reduce sound. ?
