More on the EFI YZ450F...(PICS)

This was only a matter of time....the Yamaha 700 and Suzuki 450 quads have the EFI system on them this year....talk to the owners of those machines to see how they like them. Also, if you're worried about durability, take a tour through the snowmobile community. Most have been EFI since the early 90's. Talk about harsh environments...and they have no issues. It's a thing of the future, and the only move dirtbikes can go to...I'm glad I didn't get an '06.....my '05 is looking pretty good for another couple years. ?

About the easy starting after a crash with EFI....you can't compare cars with dirtbikes...when's the last time you rolled your Chevy end over end then jumped in it & started it right up?LOL I'm sure it will start right up after a crash with EFI(no flooding)but I really think that they should incorporate EFI with an electric starter.

Resisting efi is like resisting snowboarding, or fat skiis, or the fact that the world is round. When was the last automobile to have a carb on it? Why is everyone afraid of change? I say it's about time...stupid jets. ?

I guess once we start to see them out in the real world and get a good handle on what they can do people will get on board. I know the more I read the more I like, I think some people might be thinking too much in terms of cars and not dirt bikes.

EFI is a wonderful thing. Everyone thought when the road race bikes started to go EFI that it was the end of the world. It is SO MUCH easier to remap than rejet. It is also much more precise and can be tailored to your riding style. Expensive? Well, a bit more, but in reality, all that time saved from re-jetting, fidling with EFI is much more quick and results are definately more noticable.

My only concern is if they will do a tip over type sensor you have with street bikes. The tip over sensor basically pulls the plug on the fuel pump if the bike falls over. This keeps your machine from becoming a backyard BBQ. I assume these new bikes will have a fuel pump and the like, but just wondering what to expect... Normally, with racing, we counteracted the tip over sensor and never had issues. If we didn't, you could get into a tank slapper and the bike would shut off. How they can adjust for the severe angles MX bikes obtain and not shut off is a wonder in my mind. Maybe they won't have one, but man, that pump running while laying over isn't a good idea...

I really wonder if we'll see these machines introduced in Fall as 2007 models. I almost bet that it will show 100% across the board in 2008. From reports, it seems that the OEMs still have a unit with a carb alongside the EFI model. The normally aspirated unit is showing improvements, as well. Maybe this is a prelim to EFI, but a year out is more likely???

Whatever the case, I'll be first in line for an EFI model. I have a laptop, programs, and even an old school Yosh EFI tuner. Let the games begin...

Most ideas that go over well at the All-Japan MX Nationals (they have no production rule, so they can run full-on works bikes, like we could up until 1986)...are put into production the following year. It was that way with the '05 aluminum-framed YZ two-strokes as was the '06 aluminum-framed YZF four-strokes.

I'm moving up to a 450F as SOON as this bike comes out.

i love my 250f and i think its better that i started out on one so i would learn to make the most of the bike instead of my bike making the most out of me, but now the lack of power is beginning to hold me back.

a 450f will be the next purchase, but it will definately not be a first year model!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it. For one thing, there won't be a battery to drive a pump on a dead engine, so the sensor won't be needed. Even if it did, the simple answer without a sensor is what GM has done for years: During the first 10 seconds of an ignition cycle (when the key is turned on), the pump will run to bring the fuel pressure up. After that, no tach signal, no pump.

if you ride streetbikes it's not hard to see the wonders EFI did when it finally became mainstream. Life is soooo much less stressful with EFI. To counter what some have said here, I have felt a little low-end bog in every Japanese streetbike I've ridden so far. Nothing horrible by any means, but it is noticeable. nothing a Power Commander hasn't taken care of. I have no doubt the Japanese can come out with a strong and reliable EFI system for dirt riding. again, just look at some of the quads coming out.

To you diehard carb fans, more power to ya, but i'll take EFI as soon as it comes out on dirtbikes. It is just a matter of time and I can't wait.
