man I dont want these bikes to go to EFI it just makes things more complicated and expencive. heck soon you wont beable to buy a new bike for less than 7 or 8 grand and even more if you want to modify it

Swap is on his way back from Japan with a bunch of photos from the first Japanese National of the season, and got to check out plenty of EFI (Electronic Fuel Injected) bikes over there, and goodies like the new Suzuki RM-Z250 that now has an aluminum frame reminiscent of its bigger 450cc brother. We dropped in a sneak peak last Friday (you can find a link on the front page) that showed off most of the major updates, but we'll have a much bigger feature in an upcoming issue of TWMX. When those bikes make it here (likely for '07), get ready for a whole new breed of laptop-equipped tuners.

I can't wait!!!! I was resistant to EFI on snowmobiles. You can get a small box that you can just hit a few buttons and add or delete fuel in any part of the fuel curve. It takes about 1 second to change any jetting you want!!! I will be in line to buy one as soon as the aftermarket world comes out with a controller like my sled!!! New pipe? no problem hit a couple of buttons. super cold? no problem hit a couple of buttons. ride in the mountains one day and in the desert the next? Hit a couple of buttons!!! I can't fricken wait!!!!!!! I do not want a battery either!

FUEL injection will take the guess work out of jetting. The air FUEL mixture will be perfect no matter the temp. altitude.....whatever. Sounds like less work to me, more expensive yeah but a better running and smoother bike. ?

The same tired argument comes up every time. "Don't go with electronic ignition. It's failure prone and complicated" What was the last time your ignition required any attention from you, and is it easier or harder to assemble your current setup compared to one from a '73 model?

The carburetor for an '03 YZ450 ( 5TA-14101-00-00 ) is $772.10 at a discount. So much for the expensive part. If you're going to tell me that they're less complicated, I'll tell you as someone who has spent a lifetime working on both that you're...wrong. The EFI control module will almost certainly be integrated into the CDI unit, and the throttle body will be vastly lighter and less expensive than than your carb is. The injector and a pump are all that's left (we have a TPS already) How many EFI R6's have had major failures, or been unable to modify the fuel system?

If Yamaha doesn't build adjustability into the ECM, it will be about 4 months until someone like Vortex comes out with a box that you'll be able to tap into and tweak to your hearts content.

What's so wrong with the current FCR carb that comes on the bike?????? I know that EFI will eliminate any jetting issues, but how many of us actually NEED EFI? I guess if you go from sea level to 8,000 ft alot it will surely benefit you...but who does that? I'm not concerned about the price or reliability of EFI at all..Yamaha is good stuff. My 2004 YZ 450F has crisp jetting & never sputters or bogs on me but I adjust my fuel screw accordingly. I think it's kinda fun to adjust the fuel screw as needed.....reminds me of working on my 68 Chevelle. When EFI comes, I'll welcome it with open arms, but I think the current carb still has some life in it.(By the way, when was the last time you had to by a new carb for your bike? That's why they're over $700,they don't sell very many)

Mine works great, too, but getting my 250F straightened out after the mods was an enormous PITA, and all because it was a carburetor.

But, hey, if you have so much fun with it, you can come and fix the Q-Jet on my son's '80 Silverado short bed so it will idle, tip-off properly, AND pass smog (without buying a new one). I don't have the time for it. I'm planning to drop a late model PFI 4.3L V-8 in it later.

This all depends on how many input sensors it comes with. Tdub

some of you guys have made some good points guess it always good to see it from someone elses point of view.

I guess I am a little harsh on it just because of my truck its a dodge and chrysler will not release the code and what not to the aftermarket so modding it is a lot of work if you wanna go much beyond an intake and exhaust

I just don't want to see dirt bikes and ATVs end up like some of the newer cars I have seen

my buddy has a Buick park avenue and it has all kinds of stuff thats computer controlled(active suspension, etc.) but its too much and every little thing that goes wrong he has to take it to the dealer

I dont think you have to worry about reliability issues with EFI...when was the last time you had to mess with the fuel injection system on your Toyota or Honda, or your chevy for that matter...we pretty much have fuel injection figured out now. Yeah you may lose a sensor here and there but no biggie.

I cant say enough positive about fuel injection.....youll most likely be able to pipe and mod to your hearts content without even messing with the system. It wont quit just because its on a wierd angle, it will always be tuned for temperature and altitude, it will always start properly even after a wreck, you'll go further on a tank of gas, you wont have that accelerator pump bog anymore,

HP will most likely go up another 5 or so, the engine and sparkplugs will last longer because the mixture will not be too rich or too lean.

The only thing thats bumming me out is that I just bought an 06 ?
