Well, I have been lurking on this thread for a while now and it finally inspired me to get a trailer and start my conversion. There is some great info here that will get me going in the right direction.

My plan is to make a simple air conditioned and heated sleeping area in the front of the trailer and haul the motorcycles and/or 4 wheelers in the back portion. Maybe even a divider with walk through door in between.

What I have now is the empty 24' Pace Pursuit and a roof mount 13,500 ac that I have to mount. I want both 12v and 120v lights and plug-ins, but I will probably not add any electrical accessories other than a small tv and a radio. The roof mount air came with the heat strips and the plan is to install a gas furnace also.

The wife says that we will add at least two windows and the idea in this thread of a canvas/screen door I like. She is also insisting on a roll up awning instead of using our easy-up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will need all of the help I can get, especially on the electrical issues. For instance, how does the 12v from the tow vehicle tie into the 12v supplied by the converter when hooked to shore power and the vehicle is running????? Seems like I have an opportunity to "Smoke" something here!!:applause:

Thanks
Mike

You may find that most roll-up awnings are not going to be that great, since your trailer is probably around 7' overall height, then with the slope of the canvas, you'll find that you have to constantly duck to get out from under it, don't forget the side door needs to open, so the awning can't be too low, or the door's edge will hit it. Add twice as many windows as you think you'll need-trust me on this one-things get mighty gloomy fast without light.

Mike, I went through the exact same deal. Except mine was only 16 feet long. Here is a page a set up with documentation showing what I got, and where I got it from. "toyota_mdt_tech"'s trailer

As for your lighting, you can simplify it by using 12 volts, and the shore power/generator will use a converter to run the 12 volts, plus charge the battery. Then do your 115VAC outlets. As for your AC, you will need to weld in supports for the 14" opening. Frame it in with box tubing, then a few extra supports to support the rear of the AC unit. I have a 220 volt MIG welder which was a life saver. As for your awning, I also used the roll type, it clears my head, even in the lowest area plus clears the door. But I put a wheel on the corner of the door incase a night of rain, it could sag, somone come out and the corner could tear it. Anyway, check out the links. Sounds like you had the same idea I had.

Cool trailer Toyota Tech. I like the way you put all of the electrics in the overhead cabinet saving the floor space. Do you have it set up so that the battery is charged by the truck while towing?

I will have to reinforce my roof for sure before installing the ac. There are two roof vents and the front one is where I intend to put the ac. Pace used a light weight wood frame between the steel roof supports for the vents.

Next week I will be in OK City and I will stop by Camping World to look for the converter and whatever else I may need. The credit card already hurts!!

Here is a link to some photos of the bare trailer. I will add more as the work progresses.

Mike, yes, it charges while towing and I have an isolatoer in the truck so when the key is off, only the trailer battery runs down. I didnt use the solid state isolator, instead, I used a "continous duty solenoid" which IMHO is much better. Before you get too much stuff in there, grab some Thompsons water sealer, put it in a sprayer and seal the wood inside. It keeps water from soaking it and keeps mud and tires from leaving permanent marks. In other words, it will wipe off instead of soaking into the floor and sides.

Oh crap! I saw this ineteresting thread, and low and behold, there was my post from a YEAR AGO saying I'd post pictures - YIKES! I'll pull the trailer down and shoot some pics to post this weekend. Can I upload the pics directly to the forum, or do I need to use a host of some sort?
Sorry guys!
Dan

Here are the pics - hope the resoultion is OK...

http://i173.photobuc...pz/outside1.jpg

Outside rear - standard (non ramp) door - the price was right... Notice the TT sticker below the Yamaha :applause: The lights above the door activate with reverse, or I can turn them on manually to do dusk repairs outside the trailer. The "offroad" tires and rims were on there when I got it, otherwise I wouldn't have dropped the dough on my own...

http://i173.photobuc...dkipz/front.jpg

Here's the dual lockable gas can racks - This way I can lug 10 gallons, or keep one available for thumpers, and one for any smoker tagalongs. Foldable tongue jack with wheel, and Optima yellow top (deep cycle) inside the battery box with breaker - 4 ga. ran to the rear of the trailer - battery charges off of the tow vehicle. Spare tire rack with steel spare & cover... just in case.

http://i173.photobuc...pz/leftwall.jpg

Here's the switches to control the functions and a mini extinguisher (was already in the trailer) Radio on/off, dome lights (center lights on the GM domelights in the roof), map lights (2 side lights on each GM dome), reverse trigger for rear lights on/off, manual rear lights on/off, ACC plug (cig. lighter port on right corner) on/off, and the last one is for a pair of blue neon bars just above the rear door on/off - the kids (6&2) like to get in there when it's empty and have a "dance party" so the lights can either pulse to the music & their noise or just be on solid (had it laying around, why not?)

http://i173.photobuc...z/rightwall.jpg

Here's the rack for spray bottles, extra tie downs, first aid kit etc. as well as the pic of the stereo and the fuse distribution for the accessories and the cig lighter port. Radio does MP3, has remote, and we can hang our portable XM tuner from the rack next to it and transmit to the radio to have XM in the boonies, and we can plug an iPod charger/modulator into the cigarette lighter port and transmit that way also.

http://i173.photobuc...ipz/inside1.jpg

Here's 1 of 4 inside shots. E track all the way around the edge on 3/4" ply, used a ton of Thompson's water seal on the bare floor, then bought the "motofloor" tiles (one box - 48 interlocking tiles did the job perfectly. Had to cut 5 of the tiles in half to get both edges fine, good traction (diamond plate like traction bumps in the tiles) and I just squirt Simple Green all over the floor and mop it up. The interlocking part really keeps stuff from seeping down. (motofloor from costco.com) I put skateboard grip tape on the 3/4" wood around the E track to grip the tires, but the tires ended up pulling it off over the last 2 years. The 2 brackets closest to the door are for a rack to slide in to reverse load a 3rd full size bike and strap it in. The rack above the bikes is the generic Home Depot cut to length metal rack, with D rings on the edges to Bungee things in, and the supports for the rack are all designed to be secured to pegboard and handle the weight of the 2 loaded adult gear bags fine. The tool box is strapped to the E track and pulls in & out quickly. The roof is Lauan (sp?) wood covered in "trunk liner" utility carpet, with the domelights from 99-06 GM SUV's/pickups (I remove them when installing overhead video systems). For reference, 01 YZ426F next to a 06 TTR125LE, with an 05 CRF50F behind. Did a CRF450R next to my bike and a backwards loaded CRF230F no problem also...

Any questions just holler! I do car audio/video/security for car dealers in my area, so this may explain some of the "goofiness" of the trailer...

It's two of these mounted back to back (not too cheap, but worth its weight with the cost of gas right now...

Comes with the gas can too! (and it should for that price :applause: )

And here's the center tool chest/cabinet thing: Stack-On Tool Chest

He originally linked me to www.toolking.com as having it...but it doesn't look like they carry it anymore. It's a "Stack-On PSCS-5, Silver Steel Plastic Tool Tower".

Hope this helps.

SOME PRETTY GOOD THINKING WAS DONE HERE.

Already have 6 D-rings in it, and have checkerboard vinyl flooring waiting to go in as soon as it gets warmer.

Also have a bunch of other stuff planned for it as well.
