Clarke Tank/SDG Seat...Again

Recommended Posts

i ordered the clarke YZ tank/SDG seat combo yesterday but the lady taking my order stunned me by asking if i wanted the regular YZ tank or the "big" tank. i panicked & selected the regular YZ tank fearing that the larger tank would be wider, deter access to the choke/HS button, etc, etc.

did i screw up & does anyone know if the larger Clarke tank is as slim as the stock YZ?

how many gallons does the stock YZ tank hold? now, after outlasting all my riding buddies, i'm afraid i'll run out of gas 1/2 way home! any thoughts, forum goers? thx, bobwombat

clark have made a 3.2 gallon tank for a long while. i can't believe you haven't heard or seen it in some form or other.

some lads from TT talked them into duplicating the standard YZ tank and thats what youve ordered. i think it holds 9 litres which is about 2.2 american gallons.

you've done the right thing so don't panic.

when you talk to them again would you ask them if they've ever considered a low hanging "big tank" combined with the YZ top half to produce a low slung 2.5 gallon tank?

Bob,

I hope you wanted STOCK capacity (I thought it was 1.9 gallons but not sure where I heard that).

I am running a stock OEM YZ tank and dearly love it BUT for riding beyond reach of a gas can/gas station (Turkey Runs, Hare Scrambles, etc.) You lose > 1 gallon over a stock WR tank. One gallon can be 30 miles range! This is a LONG way to push/tow your bike.

Clarke does offer this new stock YZ tank in YELLOW for the Hannah replica bikes circa 1975-1982/3. smile.gif

buddy......bigger gas tank or not there is no substitute for STUPIDITY. Each and every time I ride I am like a kid with a dollar in the candy store. All I can think about is that I want candy, forgetting that the one I inevitably choose is that one that gives me gutrot....my gut rot of choice for the WR throwing my gear on in my impatience to ride ( iha ve ONLY had my WR 2 months), and turning the gas to 'reserve' without thinking/noticing, when I have a full tank.....and running out of gas a few hours later. I have done this twice in about 4 rides blush.gif !!! I have been oh-so-lucky so far as I have run out in exactly (10 metres between incidents) the same place. Unbelievable I know, but true. Fortunately my gas tank had a mini second reserve....the right side is LOWER than the left so there is about 15cc of gas that allows me to JUST get to the gas station. I have to lie the bike down and 'jump on it' to sloch the gas over....also, by stroke of luck the place I run out is right at the top of a hill and all I have to do is coax the bike about 2 miles to the gas station. I got 3/4 there first time and had to push the rest of the way, this last time (saturday) I made it all the way. If I had run out at ANY other place I would have been SCREWED and foot-sore.

Bobwombat.

These are the web sites for Clarke -small YZ tank size: http://www.clarkemfg.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CM&Product_Code=1418

& for the larger volume YZ/WR tank: http://www.clarkemfg.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CM&Product_Code=1388

I bought a WR250F with the small YZ tank & seat combo. Great for riding but the range was hopeless - about 60 miles. I bought the Clarke 3.3 gal tank & it is great! It is quite slim & the fit & mounting are excellent. I doesn't feel like a big tank at all. If you ride miles on trails, woods or desert you will need the extra gas range. If its just MX then a small tank will suffice. If you haven't yet used the tank you may be in a position to swap it over for the larger tank if that is want you want. Speak to Clarke direct or e-mail them.

thx, guys.......i suppose what i should have said is that I WANT EVERYTHING!.... i want the slim/low tank with as much capacity as possible. i don't mind the low-slung tank/low center of gravity, even if it makes the choke & red button a bit harder to get at, as long as i can get further up on the tank in turns. i just don't want the bulbous "WR-like" fuel filler. Kevin, i belive you're right; about 1.9 gals & i'm not sure that acceptable. when i moto, just put less gas in, right?! Taffy, i knew Clarke made a much larger tank but thought it would defeat the slim/low tank purpose in the first place; their tanks always looked so...well, BIG! i suppose Clarke's solution has been to offer the same capacity in the larger tank while keeping the fuel down lower, right?

thx much for the feedback; i'll need to swap for the larger tank & should have done my homework before-hand, prior to my impulse buy..... bobwombat
