The "Hannah-tization" of my WR

Recommended Posts

I need to move forward with my SPCNS/plated project. I talked to CARB today about my retro fit trying to change red to green sticker status, and they said it was impossible. So barring a miracle in disguise from DMV compliance, I'm out come April 16th-but I digress.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. I'm working with a vinless 05 YZF450 frame, that will recieve all engine/radiator/forks and such from my 04 WR450F. I've scored a stem and triple from an 04 YZF since the WR will not make the change. I will be stripping the frame to tig weld some brackets on for kickstand/voltage regulator tabs-so paint will be in order. Either silver or black, havent quite made up my mind yet.

I'm getting ready to do a parts order, am I missing anything?

One Industries Hannah Kit 03-05 YZF

Clarke 2.8 gl 03-05 YZ250f/YZ450F Blk tank

SDG 05 YZ450F blk seat

OEM WR450F number plate (painted krylon fusion)

OEM WR450F rear fender (painted krylon fusion)

I really like that look

Nice look, good luck with getting the plates. Hey, just put a chrome Harley logo on it somewhere and say it is a special construction chopper with an off-road "theme". Maybe add a temporary pair of two foot tall ape-hangers for effect when going for inspection - they'll probably compliment you on it ? . Then after you get your plates you can run a wide open exhaust like all the other Harley dudes - seems like they get a pass from law enforcement. As long as you don't come across as one of those politically incorrect tax-paying dual sport types, you might have a chance.

the clamps from an 04 yz(48mm) will not work with the 04 wr forks (46mm) the clamps and stem from the 04 wr will work on the 05 yz but the stem might be long (use the yz stem in the wr clamps). how do i know? cuz i run 03 forks on my 05 and when i first put them on i used the clamps off of my 04 wr450 ?

the clamps from an 04 yz(48mm) will not work with the 04 wr forks (46mm) the clamps and stem from the 04 wr will work on the 05 yz but the stem will be a hair short;alleviating the washer under the stem nut that goes on top of the upper clamp will give enough clearance(or use the yz stem in the wr clamps). how do i know? cuz i run 03 forks on my 05 and when i first put them on i used the clamps off of my 04 wr450 ?

I'll have to double check this, since I've measured the neck on the 04 WR and it is exactly + 1/4" as opposed to the 05 YZF frame. I had another member here at TT measure the neck on his 04 YZF and it was exactly 1/4" shorter than the WR frame neck. So the stem from the 04 YZF should work, as long as I press it into the WR clamp? 2mm equates to roughly .080 so I'm pretty sure the clamp could be pulled down. I know you can't go the other way-larger diameter in smaller triple.

ya sorry about that i had it backwards,i had aftermarket 03 yz stem and clamps in my 04 wr and it was a little short(but it fit when i transferred it to the 05 yz). as long as there is enough thread it is the same bearings and such. try putting the wr one in and if it tightens up ok ? if not find someone with a press and put the yz stem in the wr clamp. using 46mm forks in a 48 clamp is not reccomended, especially if you have the right parts ?

Ok, I'll use the WR clamp and the YZ stem-bummer, I had already pressed a new lower bearing onto the YZ stem/lower clamp.

Oh well, I'm no stranger to the Hydro press. ?
