Help me regear my WR450?

What are you guys running for gears? I've never changed the gears on a dirt bike. I'm assuming that if I change the back sprocket to a larger one I will have to get a new chain too, right? Could I just go to a smaller front sprocket instead?
Thanks in advance,

Hey Fred, You could always install a 13t on the counter, but I would worry that the chain would rub on the chain slider more than normal.
not an issue. i run a 13/50 half the time. no extra rub. over 48000km on my org slider. also the wr250 comes with a 13t upfront ans has the same swing arm and slider.
try 13/50 or 14/52

The 13 tooth wears out quicker and is harder on your slider.
No performance issues. I run 13/52 for real technical stuff.

Would I feel a big difference going to a 13t in the front over the stock 14t?
Thanks for all your help!

Well as usual I am the odd one. I went to a 12T counter and absolutely loved it. I had tried the 13 first , it was a huge improvement. But the 12 in the mountains made it a WEAPON. Pretty much made it stall proof and tight steep downhills were much better with the increased engine braking. It did take a ton of top end away, but I never ride in the fast open areas anyway. My bike hardly ever sees 5th gear. I bought those axle blocks that are longer on one side then the other, that way I dont have to change chains when switching gearing.
12/50 is a bit much for the slider. try 13/53.
