Acerbis Rally Guard Warning

Recommended Posts

Motorick - did you have to do any modifications to the cycras to get proper fit? I am looking for tank-like protection and hopefully not having to modify the handguard.
I tested them on a Honda and they fit fine. I have not tried them on my Yamaha, but I can see that the larger number plate may rub on the fork-mounted brackets. I'm also concerned with having crash energy transmitted into both the handlebar and top triple clamp with the Cycra design as opposed to a handlebar-mount only design.

What would the concern be????
Well, for one, the Cycra brackets mount using the stock triple clamp pinch bolts. A severe enough crash could damage the pinch bolts and even the triple clamp. A stock cast aluminum triple clamp is not that hard to damage. I'd rather have a bent bar than a bent bar and a broken triple clamp.

Well nothing is totally bullet proof but I think if you crash hard enough to damage the triple clamp there will be far more extensive damage to worry about than the tc (like if your still breathing). Actually I run longer pinch bolts to compensate for the extra thickness. I've had a get off or two that actually did bend the hand guard but never damaged the triples. I wouldn't be concerned about bending them.

You may be right, but the guy asked and I offered my opinion. Longer pinch bolts is a good idea. When I tried the Cycra out I was surprised they weren't included in the kit. ?

I run the Acerbis Rally's with no issues. Several hard crashes and quite a few tree smacks and they have held up fine. I honestly think regardless of the brand that some of the issues are with improper installation & mounting position... I did have to tweak mine some to get my old school compression release to fit in on the clutch side.

I've often wondered myself if the triple clamps would be damaged by a severe crash, since the pinch type clamp is originally designed just to squeeze the fork. Anyone out there ever experience this kind of failure at the pinch bolts or know of someone who has?
