Looking for skid plate

I looking for a skid plate that will protect the side cases a bit but not be too heavy.

I just received one from Moose. It looks like it'll protect very well but it is a bit heavy. Nicely built but moore weight than I'd like to add unless I haev to.

5/32" 5052 Aluminum with clear coated finish. Definately nice, but very functional.

3/16" aluminum. They feature tig welded engine guards. Installation is easy with the "tough plated" steel clamps and they clamp tight so there are no rattles. Most models offer a built in clean out slot and oil plug hole, along with a hole for oil screen removal.

I've always been a fan of the Devol skidplate. They are typically thinner than most skidplates and use stock mounting holes for the installation instead of those heavy C-clamps used on heavier skidplates. They offer great protection and won't weigh the bike down... I think they're like 70 bucks... Well worth it..

Had a moose on my 02 wr250 and went with a factory Yamaha enduro plate on my 05 wr450. I think the Yamaha is a bit lighter and the fit is nicer as it uses all the factory bolt hole for install.

Believe it or not one of the best skid plates I ever had was a plastic unit from Acerbis. Very light, thick, high impact plastic. I don't know if they still make them. Stuff would just bounce of that thing and the factory guards were still on to reinforce against big hits.

I really liked the plastic frame guards from Acerbis I had on my WR. So I could believe it.

I just installed a Devol and it is light, but should be more then strong enough. It fit perfectly, and is possible to put on over factory guards. You will need slightly longer bolts then what is included if you leave the factory plastic and aluminum plate on. I removed factory guards to allow more air flow. We ride in the 90's, and the skid plate alone is more then enough.

I have a Devol but bought one of these from an AUS company: B&B Aluminium -

The Devol is 3mm thick, the B&B is 4mm and provides fuller coverage but is not "ventilated" like the Devol. It also weighs around 1lb more. The finish and fit of both is excellent- IMHO they dont look as "Utilitarian" as the Utahs - no offence intended! Some MBenz are "Utilitarian" - in comparison to other cars...

Both around the same $ but shipping from AUS for the B&B would cost - you would get 10% GST reduction on price though!

Hey TT, how about getting a bunch if demand is there - yeh a plug for B&B, and I dont have shares or interests!

Litespeed and Devol both look nice and much lighter than the Moose I have now.

Has any one ever used the one made by Carbon Fiber Works? What I want o protect are teh lower frame and side cases and it looks like they have one or a combination of pieces that will work.
