When I'm home, yep. My kids are both teens and accomplished shooters/hunters already though and have their own guns. They are both far more gun safety conscious than most adults I know, but they were raised around guns and have been shooting all of their lives.

It's a different life when you live an hour from the nearest cop, people tend to be a bit more self reliant.

The community is different as well. We all know each other's vehicles and such, If I'm not home and one of my neighbor hears my dogs going berserk, he grabs his rifle and checks it out, I do the same for them. In fact, if we could just get some control over the border, we would all leave our doors unlocked as other than illegals, we have no crime out where I live.

With some reservation and jest, I'll comment that I'd half expect a comment like that from a Californian.

The jest is because I don't know anything about you and it could be that you are leading the effort in CA to restore your Second Ammendment rights unjustly stripped by the gerrymandered political system in CA.

And with reservation because gun safety is no joke.

Please don't take offense. I DO APPRECIATE the fact that you added "to each his own" as it says alot about your tolerence for other's views. I just find it interesting that in my experience the people most shocked and appalled by guns integrated into lifestyle are from CA and NY.

The disk locks sound nice but I've read multiple reports of guys FORGETTING they put them on and driving off..........or tryin to. ?

I've never used one, but I've heard the trick for dealing with that is to tie a plastic spiral cord to the lock, then wrap that around your handlebar when you have the lock on. This reminds you of the lock. Somewhat like the cord used on jet ski ignitions which automatically kill the engine if you fall off.

This is a good thread, as I live in an apartment, I was thinking of getting a banshee i think its called, its a disc lock with a 140 db alarm in it, so if somebody moves it, it goes off... I had a 94 650L, that got stolen in 2000 when I was at work... worst fealing, especially since there was no insurance on it at the time. ?

I don't know about Arizona, but here in the Peoples Republic of California, you can't shoot people in the back who are running off with your stolen your stuff. The state takes a pretty dim view of that. A few years in prison I imagine. I'm no lawyer, but shooting someone here is only excusable if you believe that your life is in immediate danger and no other viable alternative exists. I'm pretty sure Arizona is much the same. I'd rather be out a bike than cooling my heels in the slammer.

The states are all different. In Texas you would probably get a medal for the same thing.

You have to remember California is sort of two states in one. The extremely liberal part within a few miles of the coast and the rest. Plenty of gun owners in the second part. That's where I live.

I put a key on mine and also use a cable and Disc-lock. Nothing will

stop a pro.... best bet is to have good insurance ?

Thats funny, I just read yesterday about this guy in Healdsburg (Norcal near coast) who shot an intruder (a previous employee) in the back with a .357 for trying to drag off his screaming wife. Was the intruder trying to steal his wife? You can't ask him he's dead.

It very well could of been my bike (which I consider part of the family) that I was trying protect. BANG! Don't touch!...just kidding.

I could get to my loaded 45 and push off about 2 aimed clips (15 rounds) in 15 seconds. Or my sks and do 30 in about 15 seconds.....kinda hard to run and shoot that thing though.

You're not gonna stop the determined thief(s) but you will stop the casual ones with a keyed ignition and disc lock(s). Don't worry, you won't get far if you forget to take yours off...

Put bike inside for longer periods. If not possible, lock it (kryptonite, chain) through both rims and frame to a tall pole, etc...

BTW...I hate thieves... ?
