IF you plug up the gas cap vent, you bike will stall due to fuel starvation. It is sort of like holding your finger over a straw filled with a liquid. Nothing will come out.

if you plug the vent tube from the gas cap the bike wont run.... the gas wont leave the tank properly... look at it in this aspect.... do you remember when you were a kid, and your parents would buy the juice drink that came in what looked like a giant coffee can? well.... do you remember seeing your parents take a can opener, and poke a hole to pour from, and a hole on the opposite side? well you see, if you only poked one hole in a sealed container, you may get a drip out of it, but it will not flow out into your cup to drink... you need to have the hole on the other side for air to flow into, and push the fluid out the other whole... it works like a vaccum... in the case of a dirt bike gas tank, it also serves as a pressure release vent... if gas sits in a completely sealed container... the fumes expand and would build incredible pressure in the tank... without the vent, when you would open your gas tank... POOF.... you would be releasing an explosion of gas and built up gas pressure out and probably all over you...so you see... without the vent... nothing works right... when you see what appears to be a plugged vent tube on the gas caps, it really still vents... it only looks like it doesnt... or if they are dumb enough they could have plugged it up, but now the bike wont run... if you are referring to the shorter gas cap vent hoses, with the little figures on them like skulls, or sprockets, or pistons... anything that looks cool... they still vent... they are just shorter and look cool... they dont plug the vent... and neither should you or anyone...

That's what I was talking about...the little skulls and stuff. I thought it actually plugged the vent.

thanks for the replies

I think what you are referring to is that some people cut of their vent line short and put what looks like a plug in it, but in actuality it is a vented cap for the gas cap vent line.
