What to do when freind crashes your bike?

I let my buddy ride my 650r and he had a pretty good wreck. He wants to pay for everything he tore up. I do not want him to pay for anything because I knew this could happen. Here Is what he screwed up, front fender, left hand guard, left tank shroud, handlebars, left grip, tank graphics, left side cover and clutch lever. I do not care about the plastic. The plastic will get screwed up with me on it. He will not let the issue go. All I am going to fix is the non cosmetic damage and continue to ride. Should I just let him pay for half since it would make him feel better? I was the one that let him loose on the 650r with just two rides on my 650l. He has had no prior motorcycle experience. We should have put him on the drz400 before the 650r.

Sounds like a good friend. Responsible too. I'd let him pay for the damage and fix it up right. If you screw it up later that's your business but let him make it right. Manhood 101 - bring it back better than it was when you got it.

Ya you were responsible for letting him take your bike. BUT, he was the one that actually took his buddies bike and actually wiped out. He was supposed to bring the bike back to you in the same condition. Around here, good buddy or not, we come good for the damage.

If he pays for the damage he is a good friend You will probably think twice about anyone else riding I lent a friend one of my bikes, a small 125 kawa and when he came back it was all messed up, he hit the side of a house...I swear the side of a house. Messed the front end up bad, forks had to be replaced. This friend wouldnt even admit to hitting anything. He said it was like that when he got it from me, that is until someone came and asked if he was ok cause they saw him hit the house. But he still refused to accept the responsibility ?

You should let him pay for everything but the plastics and graphics. He sounds like a great friend and it is his responsability to bring the bike back in one piece.

Dude!!!!! You let a first time rider ride your brp?Is he out of traction yet?Be a good friend and let him put your honda back together again.Next suit him up in some moto gear,get a more "beginer friendly" bike and give him some basic lessons on some newbie friendly terrain.If you still feel guilty take him to diner after and teach him some bench racing skills.Sounds like a good potential rider.keep 'er pinned,buuurp

if I had wrecked your bike, I would feel terrible until I had restored it to 100% of what it was when I got on it ... not letting me pay would be upsetting ... let him pay fully, and keep your friend .. ?

I would have him fix the mechanical stuff and the graphics so it rides the same and looks the same with the exception of a few scratches.

Than count your blessings, let him go for another ride and go have a beer with him.

I am still waiting for a Friend to fix my wifes snowmobile that he let someone else ride and crash 2 years ago. They borrowed it without asking and crashed it before she ever got a chance to ride it. I would kick his ass but the guy who actually crashed it got arrested and has been in San Quinton for some time. My friend finally got the last of the parts last week but it has been forever.

Count your blessings you have got a good Friend, let him go for another ride, than go have a beer with him.

Yes, it was your responsibility to let him take it, but he is an adult, he knows the risks involved and it is his fault if he messes it up. Just let him pay for the things you get fixed.....bumps and scratches are part of dirt bikes......but busted bars, thats something he needs to pay for. it also depends on how good of a buddy.....if he is like a brother, its different than if he is just a buddy ya hang out with every so often......

I have to put myself in both sets of shoes....If my best friend crashed my bike...I'd put it back together....If he wanted to pay....good...if not Shit...oh well...don't ride it again

If I wrecked my best friends bike and he didn't want the $$ to fix it...Id either GIVE him the $$ Or buy him something he needs of equal or greater value... ie: pipe or Gear..something.

If he is a good friend like you said have him pay for the damages that you want fixed and have him present when you fix it. The two of you could be better friends in the end after he understands what it takes becides money to fix it.

If he rides it again. Film it for the internet. So when he crashes again ? You can sell the film to fix the bike ?

If your friend wants to pay for the repairs, let him buy the parts for whatever you would have fixed, then get together a couple of nights and fix it. Of course he brings the pizza and beer. After all it is a dirt bike and if your riding it hard it will get marked up anyway.
