a NEW (fresh) stock 426 made about 46-47 hp. Depending on the pipe you go with you "might" get 2 hp.

Cheapest: Spot on Jetting. over stock out of the box is probably worth 2HP

Good Pipe and air filter backfire screen removed (or a K&N) coupled with spot on jetting you might get 3HP over bone stock.

Higher compression piston, spot on jetting, properly degreed cams, air filter backfire screen removal (or a K&N), race fuel, 0w30 Maxima full synthetic race oil, with a good pipe and you may get 8 or 9hp.

Big Bore (2mm) kit, spot on jetting, air filter backfire screen removal (or a K&N), race fuel, 0w30 Maxima full synthetic race oil, with a good pipe and you may get 6 or 7hp.

Big Bore (2mm) kit, Stroked (6mm), Big valves, spot on jetting, Ron Hamp intake mod, race fuel, 0w30 Maxima full synthetic race oil, with a good pipe and you can get to about 60hp.

That last one will set you back about $2500.00 or so maybe a bit more.
Hopefully Tdub will chime in and correct my mistakes, but if memory serves me those are about accurate assumptions for a good 426 which would actually be a 488 if you did the bore and stroker build.
Then you can get into the exotic stuff like ceramic crank and rod bearings for less rolling resistance and whos knows where you might end up, but odds are not too much above 60hp or so with any sort of reliability.

Also remember that peak horsepower numbers are neat to look at but more horespower down low and in the midrange will actually make you faster in a lot of cases so improving the numbers in different areas of the graph are often times way better than a higher peak HP number.
