Recommended Posts

You will be just fine... at only 1200#'s no sweat... i have towed my samurai w/ my sonoma granted i dont want to do it again but it did it just fine and was under the weight rating of the truck but without some bigger brakes i wont do it again.. ?

You need to consider what it will weigh when loaded, my 6x10 is about 2300#. Then check the capacity of your truck. If your buying new spend the money to have brakes put on, or retro fit a used trailer.

I already bought it, but I haven't picked it up yet so I will ask them about brakes for sure. All that I'm hauling is my bike and toolbox. Also do you guys think I will need a tranny cooler? I plan on taking it all the way to California, from Canada down the I-5.

thanks

just listen to what these guys said.... give yourself plenty of room to brake, take it easy up hills.... and basically just listen to your truck if it's really dogging it on some part of the road back off... people can pass you, don't be in a huge hurry to get where you're going and you'll be fine

I pull a 7X16 with my Tacoma no problem. When new, it weighed 2,400lbs, after I heavily modified it, was more like 2,800lbs. With gear, and I have hauled my WR450, KLR650, Suzuki 4WD quad, XR50 and TTR125, and enough camp gear for the wife and I plus oldest daughter and 3 grandkids, I suspect it was closer to the 5000 lbs mark. Of course, I'd get the electric trailer brakes hooked up even if tis only a 1200# trailer.

10x6 enclosed trailer that weighs 1200#. I want to pull it with an 05 ranger sup cab. All the specs say I can do it but is it really safe to do so?

thanx

?? whyy do you think they have those specs? to encourage you to do dangerous and stupid things? i doubt it.

my girlfriend's subaru (4 cyl engine) will easily pull a 1200 lb trailer, so i would think your ranger would be fine unless its a truly wimpy truck.

Keep in mind what you put in the trailer. If you think your only going to put your bike and tool box in there, your wrong. The items that go in the trailer add up quickly in weight. Have the trailer weighed when you get it stocked/loaded. It's amazing what everything adds up to.

Drive safe, there's always somebody who wants to cut you off to get to an exit.
