06 WR 450 questions

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I just got an 06 Wr 450, so Ive been all over this site checking out the mods. I have only ridden it 1 time so far, but could tell right away It needs some fine tuning... So I took everyones addvice and ordered the AIS removal kit, Zip-Ty, pro moto insert and got a 40 leak jet. Now my questions are

1 when I open up my air box is the "H" shaped plastic insert that sits behind the battery the snorkel? and

2 does the Ais kit come with the 168 main jet? I looked at the kit on Yamaha's website and it only shows the 48 pilot and the needle. Would appreciate any help.

Jimdog,

1. Yes that H shaped insert is the snorkel that they are referring to.

2. The AIS kit comes with the 48 pilot jet and a new needle w/clip, plus the block off plugs and YZ throttle stop.

Do a search in the WR forum-jetting.

You will find, that every ride is a little different. But it will give you a good starting reference. Night and Day-when you finally get the jetting spot on.

Grab a handful and hang on! :bonk::applause:

Have you done the throttle stop mod?

What's the GYTR header and muffler? Is there a site you can point me to or a part #? I know about the AIS removal kit, but not certain about the header and muffler mods? Also, does the bike run louder as a result?

Thanks!

I installed the GYT AIS removal kit, removed the snorkel, cut out the airbox, and pulled the gray wire, the bike ran great...then I installed the GYTR header and muffler and it runs even better

Thanks for this information. :applause: I had a question. With these additions, how much improvement do you notice? Is it substantial and does the bike run much louder (not a problem for me)?

I did all the "free" modes like you, added a PMB insert and the bike is WAY better than stock, but it's still pretty quiet and seems like it could use more power and throttle response down low for the motocross track. Just wondering if these additions (header and muffler) provides more than just marginal improvement.

Thanks!!!!! :bonk:

Just get the muffler to start. It will make the most difference to your bike.

the header is a bit of a waste, there is nothing wrong with the stocker, it is the same as YZ450.

I see you are in California, the GYT-R muffler is loud!

I'm not so sure about that aluminum header... :applause:

Hey guys i have another question here about the maintenance of my bike...yesterday after i had purchased my bike and was leaving, the service guy and sales guy were telling me to come back exactly ten hours after riding my bike...i was told that the "ten hour" service is thee most important one of them all and to make sure that i bring the bike in for a full check up...240 bucks is what i recall hearing coming out of the dealers mouth...is this right or are they trying to get over on me? what are they going to do with my bike and what exactly is the ten hour service?

Sure is an expensive muffler. Anything decent that might be more cost effective from the aftermarket players (FMF, Pro-Curcuit, etc)?

Here is the GYT-R propower 98db muffler, I got one on the 250 and it is

awesome. It looks a lot better than the oval muffler too. http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/yshop/Product_detail.asp?CatID=2&ModelID=165&RangeID=21&CatDesc=Enduro%20Competition&ProdID=3043

Well, the muffler itself won't fit on an 06 so I was told. In your case, you purchased the header along with it, but without the new header, the muffler won't fit. Someone tried it and said it won't line up properly. I don't need the header so not sure what I'm gonna do now. :applause:

The muffler is a "slip-on" which means it fits the stock header.

It does fit the stock header which just happens to be the same diameter as the GYT-R header. Funny that, yamaha using optomised tubing sizes. My procircuit muffler from the Ti GP system just about fits on the stock header. The stock header is just fine.

The '06 WR is no different than the '03. Only '06 YZ's different to '03 - '05 450's.
