which oil do you use winter and summer

Recommended Posts

Hello,

just a quickie here on oil.

do you use different oil in the winter cold months than you doin summer.

what brand do you use.

i try to stay away from yamalube someone very reliable told me that its ash based and sucks ass.

ive been using motul 5100 15w/50

i try to change my oil after every hard ride. and every other ride if im just trail riding .

oil filter every other ride.

i hear a lot of ppl use mobil 1 and other stuff.

how does that affect the clutch since its the same system

well since you are in cali, you can run the same oil all year around.

But I run the amsoil 0w-40 in my bikes. You can check their website for an oil analysis test they did.

AMSOIL 4 stroke 0W-40 is a great choice for winter (especially in really cold locations). The AMSOIL Motorcycle 10W-40 is also a great choice for summer or milder winter locations.

Both oils fully synthetic and wet clutch compatible.

does anyone want to let me know if its ok to run the motul 5100 15w50 in the winter or to run it at all i have two gallons of it so thoughti could use it. its what i used to run in my street bike.

Break out the manual and check the recommended oil for the temp range that you ride in. If the manual says it's OK then you should be fine. :applause:

ARE YOU YELLING AT US??? :applause: That's not how you get help around here. If you have a 426, you can get a manual Right Here

Meantime, the manual states that 15w-(*) and 20w-(*) oils are good down to 40 degrees F. 10w-(*) goes down to 14 degrees. I personally would not use a 0w-(anything) unless I first saw the results of a shear down test, and fortunately, I am never confronted with the kind of weather that would require it.

damn damn all this hostility over an oil question. cant we all get along... LOL

sorry was not yelling was at work , and using another program that i have to use caps lock and just didnt realize it. sorry for hurting your feelers thinking i was yelling.

im sure there is all kinds of usefull information in the manual. but i dont have one, and not sure where to get a good one. weather an aftermarket one or the factory one would be better. i always see all the "RTFM" posts. they are everywhere.

IF I HAD A MANUAL I COULD DO THAT . i didnt buy the bike new .

Ah, gotcha... Sorry can't help you then, I've got a 426 not a 450... maybe someone will be nice enough to give you a copy of the manual or post a link? It really is a good book to have; worth buying if you have to IMHO.
