Dynojet carb rebuild for L

Just got all the stuff to uncork my L, Pipe, air cleaner, smog blockoff, and carb kit.

The kit is by Dynojet, has a couple of jets and a spring and a long, thin shaft/needle. It does not mention drilling 2 holes like Daves does, and does not have a small thin washer to raise the needle,

I've read you can get the washer at Radio Shack, what size and thickness??

And is drilling the 2 holes larger the only diff between this kit and Daves??

you dont need the washer with the DynaJet kit ... you will notice the needle itself is shaped differently than the stock one ... that does the same thing as the washer would have ... technically, you don't need to drill the slide either, as the weaker spring allows for that .. but, I drilled mine in addition to using the DJ spring, and it works very well ... be aware when reading about jet sizes, that the DJ sizes are NOT the same as the Keihin numbers ... the DJ kit works very well, it is just way too expensive, much cheaper to just buy the Keihin jets ... :applause:

I's funny I was told not to by that very same kit when I originally started moding my XRL carb and they were right,by the time I got done with the carb and just be fore I bought the mikuni (end of my troubles I hope) I had taken the DJ kit out except for the spring and used Daves mod's where the bike ran the best. If you got the kit I got then it doesn't even come with a bigger pilot jet. I guess the carb was better with the kit than with out it but Daves mod's were the best short of going to a better carb. And yes I think drilling the slide must have made an improvement along with the tapered needle,but the stock needle did a way with one important flaw and that was the bike stalling when I came to a stop light or slowed way down after floggin it.

I have that problem with my bike! It also "pops" when you are off the throttle and rolling in gear (afterburn?). My bike came with a DynoJet kit installed but I'm not sure which one. Could I put in bigger jets or should I just do the stock and do those "Dave's" Mods? Unfortunately I can't get that 4strokes site to work right now.

If you have the dj kit then you probably have the stock pilot jet in there. You could try going up one size to a 55 keihn. Going back to the stock needle and shimming it did the best trick gor me. I think before I bought my new mikuni I was running 58/160 keihn stock needle shimmed dj spring slide drilled and the screw out 2and1/4 turns out. That is also with a complete aftermarket exaust.

The CV carb settings are very lean from the factory. If we didn't have to worry about emissions, the XRL (probably) would've been outfitted with an accelerator or pumper carb and a higher compression engine. But no such luck. :thumbsup:

These mods to the XRL carb have been around longer than this bike. The biggest problem with this carb are the lean settings. Upsizing the pilot & main jets, & grinding off the stop on the pilot screw allows for fine tuning the (richer) air/fuel mixture and the end result is better performance, espcecially with intake and exhaust mods. :bonk:

Drilling the vacuum piston (slide) allows more air to be drawn through, and I guess lowers the pressure in the vacuum chamber for better/quicker throttle response. :thumbsup:

Shimming the needle can be done with nylon, some plastics or metal. The thickness can anywhere between .025 & .040, or right around 1/32". I used plastic from a spray paint cap that was impervious to solvents, drilled a hole & trimmed it to fit. Works great.

I've done all the standard CV mods, some intake & exhaust mods, & rejetted more than once. Makes a big difference over stock and it's not very complicated or expensive, if you do the work yourself. :bonk:

THanks Goblin! I also have an Exhaust and K&N on my bike.

Where at in Massachusetts do you ride off-road? I used to live in Goshen, MA and there wasn't many places to ride. Awesome for sleds in the winter but those trails were closed to Bikes and Quads the rest of the year.
