04 WR vs 05 WR vs 06 WR

Recommended Posts

Got lots of questions -

One of my buddies just sold his 99' WR400 and is looking for a new or newer WR. I told him about the differences I knew of with the 04 vs 05, but can you guys give me more info that I can relay to him?

04 - harder hitting, no AIS (Utah, no green sticker issues to worry about), 20mm taller, bigger fuel tank

05 - smoother engine, smaller tank (more nimble), AIS equieped, 20mm lower [than the 04], bigger fork (not sure by how much), slimmer?

06 - I know nothing

Also, if you or anyone you know in Utah has one of the above mentioned models for sale, please PM me or send picture w/ contact info.

Thanks everyone.

Not really, the '05 was "refined", for lack of a better term. They still have the "New for 2005" stuff on the Yamaha site as well, but here it is anyway...

-Frame height is reduced by 10mm, and seat height is a full 20mm lower, for lowered center of gravity, improved handling, and easier access for shorter riders.

-Slimmer shrouds, seat, and fuel tank increase rider mobility on the bike, for great maneuverability and handling.

-New, fully adjustable 48mm front fork tubes for excellent handling and comfort, along with new leg protectors for more coverage.

-New carburetor and ignition settings deliver even more broad-band power, and a new air injection system (AIS) on California models makes them green sticker ready.

-Renthal aluminum handlebar shaves weight and increases comfort.

-New, shorter front brake hose routing provides excellent feel at the lever and eases brake maintenance.

-New clutch lever shape and clutch cable mean light clutch pull and less fatigue.

-New front wheel collar makes front wheel removal quick and easy.

-New aluminum muffler shaves weight, as does the new rear sprocket.

-New left side cover now has a grab handle for convenience.

Enjoy...SC

check out my 03 wr450f for sale. it's almost brand new and half the price of a new 06. its also green stick for calif. residents. 03 does not have any smog to plug off. all modifications were done at the dealer to make it a real screamer... I have the title in hand for quick sale... take a look..

You sure about the green stick?

I thought the 03 and the 04 WR were red.

I know my 04 is, red that is. :applause:

Why was 04 the best year?

higher seat height, higher tank volume, higher compression than new models, No AIS, and no starter issues like the 03

Of course all of this is subjective. Some people prefer the lower seat, and smaller tank of the new models....just not me.
