I live in Loma Linda, just over the hill. Part of Reche is in Riverside Co., and as you know, nobody in Riverside Co. government is even slightly off-road friendly!

The other part is in San Bernardino Co. The city of Colton runs crack downs now and then, and they have a couple of cops on XR400's (guys who grew up riding the area as kids.......traitors!) who will write you a ticket. They have been known to use helicopters from time to time, so don't try to run.

A bigger issue is DEVELOPMENT! Legal or not, some day there isn't going to be anywhere to ride anyhow!

My story is a little brighter! A budy of mine owns something like 400 acres in the Loma Linda south hills, so I just ride on his land and the Sheriff can't do anything (state law requires that you have WRITTEN permission however). He is a quad rider himself and his kids are dirt bikers, so he isn't going to call the Sheriff on you for trespassing, but that doesn't mean the neighbors won't! (The trouble with the "written permission" thing is that it opens the land owner up to liability issues, because you had "permission" to be riding. So, don't expect anybody to be doing you that favor!)

All that said, I have been riding back there all over Reche for years, with no problems of any kind from absolutely anybody! I have to ride 4 blocks on the street from my house, and haven't even gotten busted for that. Guess I've been lucky!

Yup! And enjoy it now while you can. Home owners will always out number riders, and in the end they win.

Well, I live right next to it, and I can take it or leave it. Certainly wouldn't be worth a trip from New Jersey, although a bunch of other So. Calif. places might be.

Back in the day when there were no houses it was great, but now it is so chopped up by development that you would be hard pressed to put together a descent 1 hour ride.

The whole area is right on a moderately active earthquake fault, which created the hills (these "hills" would be called mountains in some parts of the country). In some places, the climbs are wickedly near verticle, but there are canyons to ride as well. There are a few tracks on private land, and some impromptu tracks on open land.

The good old days are gone forever, I fear!

And, the law about the written permission is STATE law, and has been around for several years now. I will try to find you a reference.

Reche Canyon is a terrible place. Rutted out with deep wide ruts from recent rains. Lot's of brush that will tear your graphics. Rocks that will give you pinch flats. Tons of dust that will clog your lungs. Lot's of home owners that will call the law. All the areas that are decent staging areas are patrolled heavily. Better off going elsewhere such as Lake Silverwood, Hemet, and local tracks such as Milestone, Perris, Starwest, Competitive Edge, and Racetown.

Locals ...... I'll ride where I want to if there's riding going on. If there's a local around to hassle me I'll tell them the same thing I told those boys down in Palos Verdes when I was surfing.........better bring a lunch .... Oh and since they're local, I guess I can find where they live too:thumbsup:

Or.......I'll ride everywhere else and all you locals can ride that area......but stay out of the rest of the desert and mountains.

Oh yeah, one more thing. There is a lot of dirt. It gets real dirty. You'd have to wash your bike and clothes. And if it rains then everything is muddy. It will get all over everything. You'd be better served riding elsewhere.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Im in GT also and I just use reche canyon to get to LL or MoVal when I don't feel like hitting the street. There really isn't much to ride back in there. As previous posters have stated your better off going to Silverwood or whatnot if you want a real ride
