How Do You Clean Your Filter

how do you clean your filter i rense mine in gas then let it dry and put that maxima foam filter treatment on it ( its blue ) how do you cleans yours ?

You have to have a machine in the garage right? My wife would kill me if I brought the filters in, hehe. Anyway, your method may be a good one though.

I wash them with twinair detergent, then with warm dishwasher soap water and rinse them thorougly from inside out and let them dry. It is surprising how much sand still comes out when you rinse them in a bucket.Then I oil them with twinair oil and put them in a closed plastic bag and anytime I need a fresh one, it is ready for use.

I use ( I think it's BelRay ) foam filter cleaner. Let it soak for about 10 minutes then in rinses out and looks almost new. I'll have to try simple green though; that would be much less expensive if it works just as well.

would you guys recommend using a parts washing machine?, I'm not sure about the fluid it isn't the solvent type just kinda soapy.

I use Uni Foam Filter Cleaner and Maxima oil (either the FAB1 spray or the FFT liquid). The cleaner rinses clean is just a minute or two and occasionally requires a second application.

First cleaning with Kerosene (or Diesel - cheaper) followed by warm water and dish soap. Reoil when dry with Maxima FFT oil.

jamieyz426f01 are you talking about a hot tank? I would try it on a sponge first, or something of similar material before i go and roast my filter. If it holds up to it, heck yes, I assume you are speaking of a hot tank with the soapy non-acidic solution, something a machineshop has? Or the kinda that has a brush that spews a solution out of it? That would probably work really well also, but try it out on something else just to make sure. I will try to hot tank now that I am thinking about it. Let me know how everything works out

I have three filters, when two are dirty then I clean em.

I wash em first in kerosene or diesel (gasoline is such a bad idea, you gonna blow up or get cancer or both, man). Then I wash it out on the driveway with Simple Green and detergent. I'm real picky about clean.

I used to clean em in the house and my wife put the kibash on that right away.

Then I let them air dry before oiling em up.

I use Bel Ray filter oil. Its real gooey.

I'm not sure if you mean "hot tank" literally, if you are then mine certainly is not a hot tank i had to stop half-way through washing because the water was SO damn cold! I think i still need to use some sort of solvent to dissolve the little bits of crud as there was still some specs in there after i washed it in my machine but it did get rid of the oil pretty good

I use laundry detergent (Cheer) with hot-water in a stainless steel bowl. I then Soap/Agitate/Rinse several times & then I let it soak for about 30-minutes, then final rinse & dry. After dry, I spray with an Aerosol Twin-Air foam filter spray and let it stand for about 2 hours, then I store in ziplock bag.

I purchased an additional Air filter so I can swap with the dirty one right-away rather than waiting for the dirty one to be cleaned/dried/oiled. The laundry detergent seems to get the filters really clean and seems to be easy on the foam material with very little cost.

I thought of just throwing it in the washing machine but if I start doing that, my wife will expect me to start doing laundry, thus I make it look like a scientific process...

I used my parts washer before I went with Notoil. The fluid in it was Safty-Clean, and it worked well on my Twinair filters. Now however, I'm sold on Notoil...it's the best.

Will Simple green not eat the foam away? I once used some degreser mixed with my No Toil cleaner and let it soak. The next day the foam was desrtoyed! And to make things worse my girlfriend asked "Won't degreser mess up the foam? " I'm like NO Way Babe!

I have only used simple green like 2 times in my life but never dealing with my bike. But I have read on here a thousand times guys love simple green.

Now I use Notoil cleaner with Tide laundry detergent and warm water. It works great! Air dry then Notoil oil.

Stainless, I use Simple Green to clean my bike, boots, helmet, chest protector, air filters, and everything around the house. The stuff is great. I've been cleaning my filters with it for over a year with absolutely no problems.

I'm guessing you had some type of a chemical reaction from mixing the No Toil with a degreaser.
