Pretty cool site you got going over here!

I was curious if any of you know the name of the OHV area off the 10 FWY. If you are heading east on the 10 FWY and you pass the windmills but before you hit the IN-N-Out/Carl's Jr./Del Taco off ramp (sorry I don't know the name of the town :excuseme: , but it is before Indio). Anyway, there is a big hill right on the north side of the freeway. It's got the big hill climb right in the center of the hill. It looks kind of sandy too. Just to the east of the big hill climb are trails that go up through the hills with the radio towers on it (or some type of towers).

I was curious on if anybody knew the name of it so I can see if I can ride there (legally......I've got a red sticker). I've driven by it many times going to Glamis or to Phoenix and always wondered about it but never had the time to stop. I don't really care about the hill climb area, more about the trails going up the other hills. Are the trails even worth checking out? Are you allowed to ride there? I really haven't seen very many people riding in that area before. Thanks in advance for your input - Mike

You are thinking of Edom hill. It is right off the Date Palm exit in Palm Springs/Cathedral city. There is some great hill climbs on that sand dune, and tons of trails and canyons to get lost in. If you ride north of there you will hit an abandoned water park that has some really good hill climbs as well.

There was a post in another forum about a crackdown on riding there. Apearently there is a plan to develop the area, so they don't want riders there anymore (safety reasons they say).

I thought it was BLM land???

Ya I live like 20 minutes from there and from what I know you can't ride there. And also I live in Beaumont and you can't do any riding legally here also. Which really sucks because there where some cool trails here, but hey closed everything down. There is still one place where people ride but it is not legal.

This was the case some time ago, but they are allowing riders there again. Just have to park off Date Palm way in to the sand. I was there last weekend and there was a CHP and a Ranger there with riders having fun. And yes it is BLM.

Thanks for the input guys! So are the trails worth the 1.5 - 2 hour drive?

I would say that it depends where you live. I my self have never ridden there even though I live so close, but it is probaly really fun. But to me doing any riding is worth going out.

If you explore the area it is very worth it. There are several canyons with some challenging trails, and some awesome hidden sand climbs. Be carefull there is a couple of dust bowls out there. Its OK if you are the first guy through, but other wise you will disappear for a good minute. Thats a long time in dust, makes for interesting riding, when your tires sink half way in the stuff :)

The abandoned water park is fun to if you can find it. You can see it with google earth, I will try to find it and post a pic in that thread.

If you stick to just Edom Hill then you will get bored fast unless you really like the hill climbs on the south face.

Forgot to mention, there are several Oasis out there to, hard to find, and you cross in to wilderness. But the wild life is great out there.

It's not an OHV area. Quad riders no doubt.

They aren't quadriders. And just because a place isn't an OHV area doesn't mean diddly. I have driven by that place many times and you can tell right away that it is dirtbikes all of the way.

There are canyons back there way to narrow for quads. Like I said if you get off Edom and explore the area there are some great places to ride.

South side is closed, which I used to ride there every weekend because it was really cool with the all the offroading that you want to do and a small track. I absolutely loved that place but now I just go to Starwest and do track. I was up in South Banning in the hills back there last week. It was pretty cool and ALOT of ruts. But if you are wondering you can still ride across the highway and do riding over there, which the opening is next to the go-cart track.

Usually we park off of Rio Del Sol in Thousand Palms and ride out from there. Was out there a couple of weeks ago and saw a few quads.
Ya gotta be real careful getting into those canyons down there. Make sure you got a way out. I've been stuck down there for a couple of hours just trying to find a way out before. Kinda takes the fun out of riding.
Aside from the rocky trails and deep sand, its pretty fun. Im in Rancho Mirage so its really close to my house. Only 5-10 minutes drive time.
Have fun.
