Heading up to Jawbone on the third and want to spend the night. I'm coming from San Diego and have never been thier before. Does anyone know the best way to get there from San Diego? Also, I'm looking to buy a good map of the place. I would like to do a 100 loop at Jawbone with some good high elevation rides. Anyone know of any cool trails or staging areas for a tent?

thanks,
James

Go to McGivers cabin, which is a good long ride at high elevations. Pickup a Friends of Jawbone map at the Station. Best $2 you can spend there.

Take the 5 all the way through LA and when you get into the valley take hwy 14 north. Then you will go through Palmdale, Lancaster, and Mojave. In Mojave you will bear right and stay on hwy 14 going past the 4 way stop for California City and you will keep going north.

Jawbone will be on the left side and you will see the Jawbone store first then the canyon entrance and as Palmdalerider mentioned stop at the BLM Station for your map.

You can camp all over in the area so find a spot that looks good and go for it! Be prepared, it will be COLD at night. The lows here are around 30 at night.

From SD, I wouldn't go through LA with all its traffic! Take the 15 to the 395. Then west on the 58 and north on the 14. (Or cut across through Calif City between the 58 and 14, to save a few miles.)
