yz 450 as enduro bike?

Recommended Posts

Great!

You have to spend a bit of money on it to make it last though.

The '06's got 5 speed, the '05's only got 4.

My good mate rides enduro's on his '05. He went to a 45 rear sprocket to give it some legs. It has enough power to pull it, but the '06 would be better to spread the gears abit more evenly. This is why yamaha went to 5 speed.

The tank is way too small, I don't know if they make after market ones for '06 yet, but won't be far behind.

Radiators are too small, the bike gets real hot after a while. fluidyne or pwr make great ones, but also, don't know yet for the '06.

Most enduro pro's ride CRF450(because 5 speed gearbox) or KTM 4 bangers here in Australia , but I expect to see a lot more riding the blue (or yellow!) yamaha. You can't question the reliability of the engine, it has been proven for years.

KTM exc range might suit you better. They are light, got 6 gears, and go great too. You have a KTM so you know the brand. KTM's are as reliable as the yamaha's, if not more.

I'am thanking of purchasing a yZ 450 for the mountains and racing enduros.I am currently riding a Ktm 300.I would like a light 4-stroke bike.I do not need the magic button. What do you guys think.

I'll bet the 450 works great in mountains (I've only had my old 400F in the mountains and it's fantastic there, the 450 would probably top that given it's lighter and got more power!) although enduro riding could be rough if you run into super-tight sections. The YZ is probably geared a bit tall in first that. I rode a KTM 300 once, and it had nice steady power with some flywheel weight to it; something the YZ won't have. My 400F was quite a bit quicker than the KTM300, but would stall easier in tight sections , maybe due to no flywheel weight.

I have a 06 yz450f on order and race only hare scrambles and enduros. I have found that it is easier to make a yz into a enduro bike than to make a wr into a real racer. That is if you want a racer. If you trail ride only get a wr.

Hey GD, let us know how you find it for woods... I'm looking at doing it also.

At the moment I have a 450sx with a WRatio 6 speed box and it's fantastic... but WhitePower suspension is way behind the kayaba and it's too cramped for me to stand comfortable and not have my nuts resting on the handlebars! :applause:
