Met up with Goliver for a Sunday cruise around the Elkins Flat trail system, and we couldn't have picked a better day. The frozen tundra has been replaced with that good old Miracle Grow Potting Soil. :worthy: :worthy:

We started the day doing loop 31, probably a little over 20 miles the way we did it, and the only place we saw any frost was right at Caldor (aka the freezer), the rest was excellent. :D

After a lunch break we went back out and rode loop 26, trail 28, and a little bit of other stuff. We only saw very slight traces of snow up at the highest point on Plummer Ridge, with a few greasy spots, otherwise it was great traction everywhere. That second loop was probably about 25 miles or so, and we only saw a few other riders. :ride:

It was a great day, way warmer than the last couple of trips up there. Thanks Geoff, we need to do it again if the weather will cooperate a little longer.

 I'm envious!

But in retrospect, I did the right thing. I'm now 100%.

The cold/flu I had really sucked. I had no sniffles or cough, I was just sore from head to toe.

Oldedude, answer the question that's on all of our minds................ it's probibly not fair............ since it's still very new............... but.............. did you do 2 or 4 on Sunday? :excuseme:

You lucky dog! :foul:

It was a very good 2-smoke day today. :busted:

I had to give Goliver a chance to check out the new ride, since he is a 2-stroke guy. He said he liked it, and that he could possibly see a KTM in his future.
He was riding his Dad's 89 YZ250WR, a really cool old-school bike that's in great shape. He even runs the old style 2-smoke oil that smells good.

I did adjust the valves on the thumper last week, and weather permitting I'm gonna take the 351 out Wednesday. :ride:

 Put Geoff on a moped & he'd still kick my @ss! :smirk:

You're allowed to ride the 4 on Wednesday, if and only if, I get to test ride that beast again.

No problem, but you might decide you need a thumper back in your garrage too. :D

....... No, I got that wrong, it would be in your shed. Is there room for two bikes in there? :p

My last name is Elkin, when I saw this post the first thing I thought was "I've known I was perfect for a long time, it's about time I got some recognition." :)
Anyways, glad you had fun.

Oldedude,

Thanks for the great tour of your backyard again. Couldn't have asked for better conditions. At one point we were taking a break and I looked down at the ground and made the remark that it really does look like potting soil. What AWESOME conditions. Not to cold and not to many greasy spots. Just enough to keep you on your toes. Only one rookie get off due to a little bit of white stuff that caught me off gaurd and showed me the high side off the bike. I totally deserved it.

The old F150 made it home with nary a hiccup after the mornings scare of alternator failure. WTF?

Oldedude's 250 is SWEET. It looks brand new. The only way you could tell it had been ridden much was the back tire was a bit worn. The bottom end that baby has is awesome. Just tractors through the corners, and the suspension is so plush you can just slam through the woops where the old Yamaha shows you that the old Yamahop is still alive and treacherous. The KTM is just on rails.

After Bigbob let me ride his new Husaberg I was sold on that baby and still like it a lot but if I can snag a killer deal on an out of state KTM like Oldedude's and get it plated to boot I think I found the answer to my prayers. I forgot to ask you how you found out about the bike?

Thanks again for the awesome ride Oldedue. Just what I needed today. What a hoot!

I found it on CycleTrader, but I was also watching CraigsList (checking their listings all over the place), and the Bikes For Sale section of KTMTalk.com. I thought about a 2003 200 EXC that was in Reno, but decided against any red sticker bikes. I also talked to a guy in Fargo, ND and one in Tulsa, OK, but I really didn't want to buy a bike that I couldn't see first. I just got lucky with this one, but really good deals do show up from time to time.

I actually hit the dirt for the first time on the smoker today. Wasn't even due to any white stuff or greasy spot, just got out of shape in some of those Elkins rocks.

I think me and Slyko might hit GT Wednesday, going to try to ride the whole place. :ride:

guys the Husaberg has broke in and now it has this bark I can't get rid off. gone is the easy ride play bike. Now that damn thing is a jedi monster. a real hit all thru the low end.. plus I took it over to this guy Dale Lineaweaver in El Sobrante. He has a dyno room in his large garage and is nationally known for his Husaberg work. I brought him my carburetor and he frigging re built it. The bike is unrecogonizable now. Fire breather Jedi.  :worthy: still the suspension and ride is pure Husaberg!

after the apocolypse the smokers will rule the earth again,. it will be like mad max style, 2 strokes pieced together from a wide array of parts.

The H bikes will all be gone valves shot, cams faded, motors used for boat anchors.

Which 2 stroke oil smells the best bob? :excuseme:

If you went riding with me, oldedude, slyko, dom wtf, super lurker, you would be the only one on a thumper, kinda strange to think about. :prof: :p

 Maybe no H bikes, but I would bet a couple old TT500 desert rat bikes, and a few XRs will survive. :smirk:

............... and don't you think this thread has strayed just a little off topic? BigBob is right, you gotta love Mondays on TT.

How many times should we say "sounds like fun, wish i was there" been there done that. That is why these threads usually wind up elsewhere.

I rode yesterday, red mud slippery slidey stuff. Quads found one of my trails and qualified it. Blasted out a new hill climb. Followed an old skidder up the hill, smoking my clutch the whole way; digging holes with the rear tire. Came to a stop at a super thick patch of trees, but I could see daylight at the top of the ridge. I took out the trust saw and went for a walk. I found the road about 75 yards up the hill. I cut a trail back to the bikes, and continued on up the hill. Smoking the clutch in the loose soil, no traction, forest fluff. I cut the limbs off one tree and sure enough when I got to that spot, me and the bike were on the other side. So I blasted though the limbs and took a clubbing to the ribs, right below the chest protector. Made it to the road and took a break. Looked for my flag tape to mark the trail but forgot it at home. No matter it, was easy to make and I think i will be able to find it again. Went back down the road and hit the top of another trail. Looks like a few bikes guys have found it and it is grooving in and berming up quite nicely. Got to the bottom of that trail and Rannoch's gear shifter was stripped, started to limp it home from there. Got to this one hill climb that had yet to be topped. It isn't long, it isn't tough, but it is a red mud slick snotfest. To fast and you lose traction from sliding, too slow and you can;t get the MO working for you. So you gotta hit it just right. The hill is at a 90 degree to the road and you can't get any run at it. I hit it chugged up the straight, went through the twisty and then straightened out again for the near vertical lip at the top. This is no average lip, but it is loose dirt that a cat pushed over the edge. First try I got the front wheel over the top. then feel back down the hill. Second try I railed it all the way and made it over the top for the first time ever.

Same hill but in august

Here is an example of what I was talking about earlier.
http://i15.photobuck...de/100_1482.jpg

We went 32 miles in 4.5 hours. it was hell. I think i broke my toe about half way through the ride. It is swollen and black and blue today, hurts like hell.

There now we are back on topic.

My place isn't black potting soil, more of a cream and sugar coffee brown, but still perfection none the less.

Now get up here so we can go out in the woods and "smoke some stuff"

Remebered the helmet but did forget the camelback. Didn't think to put it in my new gear bag the EvilQueen got me. You guys have fun Wed. at GT. The conditions should be awesome.
