Hi,

I think I might have an idea. When I bought my XR600R, the guy that owned
it said that there was some kind of scam going on using phony traveler's
checks. Apparently, some crook had sent a bunch of traveler's checks to
purchase the bike but when he went to cash them, they turned-out to
be as phony as a $3 bill. He said that the FBI was involved and that this
wasn't an isolated case. Another possibility is someone with a phony account
is bidding up the item. I've seen that done. Then, the account owner never
pays. Then again, I believe P.T. Barnum is attributed to the quotation:
"There's a sucker born every minute and two to take him." Who knows??

Rgds,
Bob East

Hi,

I checked the purchaser's pedigree and he appears to be legitimate.
He has a 100% positive feedback on 16 purchases, 12 of them in the
past month. Maybe he just has more money than brain matter???

There are a bunch of different people bidding. The scammers usually use the buy it now button. The ones to watch out for are the 0 feedback bidders.

On a side note, I had my xr for sale on ebay, I specifically said in the description ANYONE WITH LESS THAN 25 FEEDBACK, CONTACT ME FIRST BEFORE BIDDING. So this chump with absolutely zero feedback bids on it, then gets all mad and insulted me and my bike because I cancelled his bid.

The older xr and xl in good shape can bring some good coin.

Man, I dont know about the price, but that thing is really clean. I had one of those brand new in June of 83'. Ive never owned anything that got me into and out of more trouble.

That bike is probably worth 18-19 hundred max, without the dent in the tank. But 12,000 miles says it needs a piston too. I sold mine in 1990 for 800 bucks and it was a mess. My Uncle still rides it to this day.

Its neat to see one in good condition, brings back memories of doing wheelies through town with the cops chasing me....ahh to be young again :applause:

I f you look at the bid history, it doesn't look like a mis-typed bid. It look like many of the bidders were willing to pay alot for the bike.

Perhaps it is a smokescreen for a drug deal, and there's 10 kilos of coke in the tank? :applause:

I agree. E-bay looks like an excellent place to launder your dirty money.
