OK, a trip to KTMtalk found:

450 XC

1st 14:32 -- 2.29

2nd 17:31 - 1.82

3rd 20:28 --1.40

4th 22:26 -- 1.18

5th 24:24 -- 1.00

6th 21:18 -- 0.86

Compared to

YZ450

2006:

1st 1.929

2nd 1.533

3rd 1.278

4th 1.091

5th 0.952

So the YZ is much better than the 03-05 4 speed, but much closer than the KTM XC gearbox. Tough choice here, I think the gaps on my XC gearbox are noticeable, but still OK. And I love being able to go 5 mph in the tight spots without using the clutch while still having an 85 mph top end.

I still think you should get the YZ....

I definitely like to ratios of the XC better than the YZ. However, some sprocket changes on the YZ would make it very usable... it just wouldn't be an 85mph bike.... which is OK with me!

Sloow... you are shameless in your quest to get a free ride on a new YZ!!

Shameless?? Well OK, If the shoe fits...

The best part of the XCs hi top speed is the way it cruises along at 60-70 mph. Totally relaxed, rpms nice and low. Makes fire roads and long transport sections much better than my old 250 mixer..

You should still get the YZ.
