My 06 450 Review

I rode my 06 450 for the first time today. Didnt really beat on it too bad cause I wanted to brake it in nicely. I am a longtime two stroke rider so it took a little getting used to on the trail. I have borrowed many fourstrokes though.The bike has tons of power, you can lug it and ride the sweetest wheelies. Forgot that I had engine breaking and dropped the bike twice down a loose sandy hill, not sure if it was my fault or the really crappy 739 front, but I was riding with the clutch in down hill. After that incident I was engine breaking. Once I broke the brakes in they worked sweet. Suspension was awesome!!! I still need to set the sag but it fit me good. Tranny felt good.All in all I am pretty stoked with my purchase. Ill find out the service end of it tommorrow when I change the oil and clean the air filter.

Mods I think I am going to need in the future

Pro Moto Billet End cap with insert. Bike felt kinda loud and I had to dodge the rangers cause I had a home made job on mine and snuck it into the park with inside the trailer

Handguards, I ride way too many sketch hills and trails to not have them

Wave rotor, brakes didnt fade, but I wont know until I am really on them.

New tires, probably kenda carlsbads until it rains, like the 756 but for track

Fly wheel weight

Yes, get rid of the 739, and put a 756 up front, and a Maxxis IT on the rear. It will give you a great combo for most types of riding. I had the stock 739g on both the front and rear of my 2004 yz 450f. I didn't like them at all, especially the front. The 739 seems to be known for washing out, and the first day I got the bike I bent my handlebars on making a slightly sharp turn on hard-packed coal/dirt in Pennsylvania. After going with the 756/Maxxis IT combo, I've never looked back.

What front would you suggest in combo with the maxxis IT for intermediate/hard terrain?

Isn't the 756 just soft?

I had a pirelli mt32 rear and the knobbies on that all snapped off. I know the maxxis IT to be a good rear, but i'm not sure about the front. I usually have trouble with the front washing out on my michelin starcross

On my kx's I usually rode 756's when it is wet and kenda millvilles when it was dry I forgot to add the stock chain sucks and I am going to need to re gear the bike also. For a rear tire I know it sounds wierd but I run an IRC M5B. My friend turned me on to them and they last forever and hook up like anything.

Fly wheel weight ?????? i just took one off of a 02 426 i bought about a month ago......what a difference.....why would you want to do that you your brand new bike.....you'll louse so much of the rev.....if you really want one i'll sell you a used one really cheap.....it would be a mistake in my opinion....

for tires try out the Dunlop 952...last alot longer than the 756.

I've had great wear so far with the 756 up front, and that includes riding a decent number of times on some pretty rocky trails (tower City, PA. Paragon in PA.) I just haven't had much wear with this combo, so I can't complain at all about the 756 up front.

When I run on MX tracks, they are usually hard-pack, with occasionally mud after a rainstorm, but most of the time it's on dry, hardpack.

My 952 lasted exactly 12 rides before it lost 2 of the intermediate knobs. Personally, I think the Maxxis will far outlast the Dunlop.

Where I ride that's not the case, my 952 lasted just as long if not longer than my IT, both are great tires. You need to take into account riding style and terrian. When I buy new tires they will be 952's, but that's me.

The Maxxis is heavy and it was a bitch to mount but it has lasted a pretty long time on my xr650. I think I am going to try the 952 for my next tire.

I don't think I have heard of anybody liking the 739.

Tires are just like oil/exhaust...everybody has a favorite. It's not like you are stuck with it for life either...
