free weight loss mods for our 450s

Recommended Posts

If anyone has done any free weight loss mods to their yz450, please post them in this thread. For example I managed to shave a few ounces by removing the front sprocket guard, trimming the rear mud flap up aways, and I keep less gas in the tank when riding. Just to name a few.

I don't know anybody who has been able to reduce the weight of the bike considerably, effectively or safely. Also, it is not a matter of the weight of the bike itself, it is the high central of mass and gyro effect that makes the bike feel heavy. This should be at least partly be fixed on 2006 bikes.

Usually the best gains in weight reducement can be found elsewhere...

Too true. I did just that in the last year. I wonder how much money it would have cost to loose 50lbs. from my bike? What did it cost ME to loose 50? I feel great. I can race faster for longer.I spend way less on food(more on the race bike),and my wife is interested all over again.

Another example of how I was able to reduce weight of the bike is that I use stiff fork springs with the least amount of fork oil. This set-up is much lighter in weight than soft springs with a larger amount of fork oil.

You guys are pretty darn funny...:applause:

LOL "squirt"

That all good....but I lost 25lbs of body fat in 2001......as everyone knows a 426 is not a lite bike.....that was free I guess......until my divorce was final.. :applause:

good idea. it doesn't really matter how well the bike works. much more important that it be a few ounces lighter.

i bet you could save considerable weight by switching to wheels off a mini, like maybe a yz85 or something. then you could throw the starter lever away and just bump-start the bike. i like to machine the brake rotors to a smaller diameter and thickness. just think of all the weight savings that can be had.

leave off the seat

don't put engine oil in

drain the coolant

cut off one arm and 1 leg

ride w/o a helmet

shave the hair off your legs and crotch

pull all your teeth

the possibilities are limitless! :applause:

I'm not positive, but isnt the front sproket guard there for a reason? We have a metal one and the story that we got was that it was to prevent parts of the chain from going through the cases and causing a catostrophic failure. Sounds legit to me...

Why not go to a full titanium or carbon fiber exhaust. Use 7/8ths bars because 1/18ths probably weigh more. Don't run a bar pad. Instead of steel sprokets use aluminum. If you have a heavy steel skid plate, use CF of aluminum.

You can feel a greater difference than the lost 3 pounds simply by having a good sleep the night before your riding.

I know from myself, if I have been drinking, am sick or have not slept properly, the riding will not feel good.

If you guys think you can make a noticeable difference in the feel of your bike by shaving a couple (expensive) pounds, you gotta be kidding. Right, you can do it what the factory guys can't and you really can feel the difference :applause:

I saw where some of the Honda guys were drilling holes in their frames to lose some weight... :applause:

Those Honda guys are so crazy sometimes... :ride:

I agree that the best reduction is from your waist. Not only are you lighter, but in better shape, stronger, and with more endurance as well.

Damn, I have about 40 I'd like to give to someone really cheap too! ?
