07 Wr 450

Recommended Posts

I disagree with the direction Yamaha is going with the WR! Too many common parts with a full bore MX bike to save costs in manufacturing. Since Yamaha sells more YZ450's then WR450's yet most of them end up being trail bikes it is a shame they cant focus on building a true enduro focused weapon to compete with some of the new Euro bikes.

They should be looking at the following:

6 speed gearbox!!!!!

adjustable eccentric cam front axle for offset and trail steering geometry set up!

Slipper clutch for reduced engine braking!

Grease zerks in the hubs, swingarm and linkages for keeping lube in and mud out!

An air box that is truely water tight yet lets air in from a larger opening under the seat!

Fuel injection since we have a battery for the starter!

Wider rims for the new larger off road tires which will reduce pinch flats!

Steel frame with rubber mounted engine to reduce vibration on long rides!

Isnt aluminum more prone to break/stress fracture? :applause: By the way, I must have the perfect wife. She never whines about my riding. I ride every weekend in the summer, sometimes 2 days sometimes just 1. I also get alot of weekday/evening rides in. She say she likes me riding better than hunting because I am home at night. I also hunt 30-40 days year, and she is not quite so fond of that, as I often am gone days at a time. But she still deals with it. AND WE HAVE TWO BOYS. Man, now that I think of it she is awesome. :ride:

can i come live with you? cleaning isn't my forte but i can cook pretty good,so your wife probly wouldn't mind ? i'd be pushin' daisies if my wife even thought i was considering a schedule like that ?

I love the sound of this. But the one I dont understand(because I know very little about engines and such) is what improvement would fuel injection have. I think you have even explained this to my dumb azz before. Thanks agian...and type slow :applause:

A-man INDY! Don't forget steel valves.............

EFI is much easier to tune once you get the software/bit of experience. can be as frustrating as carbs, but no tearing the bike down, just plug a USB into a power comander on the bike, and download richer/leaner maps. Also has some more sensor to tune itself for elevation/temp changes ect.

Just imagine having absolutely perfect jetting any time, any day, rain, hail, snow, shine, from the Sahara desert to Antartica.

You never have to touch a jet ever again.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't pay 10 grand for a dirt bike. I would like to see EFI, but all this other stuff is going to skyrocket the price. And I don't think we'll ever see production two-wheel drive WR's, be real! I'm very happy with my '05 450 and the '06 is even better (I should have waited a year). I like what Yamaha is doing. The WR is at the top of the hill and its not an orange bike!

6 speed, what does that really give you? I love the 5 speed....

Slipper clutch.... $$$$$$$ You may be rich but parts like this would skyrocket the MSRP..

Zerk fittings, great idea and cheap too...

Airbox, out West we cut holes in ours (not me) to make the bike breath better. Sound like you need a tube of silicone.

Fuel injection, I'm sure it's coming someday, maybe when the cost comes down and Cannondale memories fade away.. (yes, I'm well aware that GG uses FI).

Steel frame and rubber mounted engine. The WR is already known for an almost nonexistant vibration ride.. But Harley swears by them..

Steel frame, sounds to me like some of you will be jumping ship for 07 (or 08) when the WRs will come with the new genereration aluminum frame. Yamaha's in the business of selling bikes, I do agree that steel seems like the better metal for off roading but you'd be surprised how many Joe schmoes feel that the WR is outdated with the old steel frame and would rather buy a Honda just because of newer aluminum frame.

Me?

I think handguards and frameguards would be sweet, it's an offroad bike. Husky found a way to street title their TE line, Yamaha should copy them and get the bike to pass the EPA for all emissions standards, that along with Yamaha buying out Dales dualsport kit design making the bike street legal from the factory. They would sell gazillions of them..

I rode a new RMZ250 last weekend, the seat was incredible, I would love the the WRs to have a softer seat for my fat ass...

A stock tank with at least a 3.5 gallon capacity and a Hydraulic clutch. (they're pretty cheap).

I concur with Indy, steel is better for offroad. Or maybe it's just me, I just prefer steel frames.

aluminum has poor tensile characteristics, and is more prone to stress cracking than the mild steel they use now. especially at the welds. i won't even mention what a rock garden might do to them! my big a$$ is gonna stick to steel :applause:

I can remember when the 03 came out, half of you guys complained that the WR was electric start, "Real men kick start their bikes" attitude, "2002 was the last great year for the WR" and on and on...... Somehow Yamaha made it work.. I too agree that steel is the way to go but somehow I believe that if the new WRs are in fact aluminum Yamaha will make it work..

This is why they use billet, forged, and normal aluminium to make up the frame.

I don't think honda has a problem with cracked frames? They seem to last to me.

I think the WR is going in the wrong direction,Its a dam street bike.My 04 makes great power and I like the changes to the 05 frame but did'nt they change the intake cam as well as the exhaust in 05.I would get the YZ.Acully I'm thinking of getting a KX250 smoker punching it out to a 300, port it, adjust the suspention for the woods and leave the Thumper in the dust.

I have an 05 wr and a 03 kx310 with 11 oz flywheel and the wr is much easier to ride in the woods. That may change with the v force reed cage and gnarly pipe and new pirelli 120/90 mt16 coming next week, plus some timing pullback that I will try. Will advise. :applause:
