I just put a deposit down on a new 06 450 (yellow) . My 03 has a FMF powerbomb head pipe. Do you guys know if it will fit the 06?

I don't think it will. But, I'd leave the stock exhaust alone for a little while. The '06 comes with an OEM "power bomb" and i've heard the stock can is really free flowing. I'd stick with the stock for a while and give it a chance, but that's just me.

Pictures of the Australian model that was tested show it to have one.

Your header should fit, but the rear section has different mounts so it wouldnt fit. Make sure your header has the same diameter as the stock rear section. The US versions will not have the "powerbomb" header as you call it. Its for noise-it actually detunes the bike.

(the power bomb is) for noise-it actually detunes the bike.

Not true. The factory "power bomb" works exactly like the FMF version and does the same thing, which is to say that it has the effect of giving the header an undefined length. The result is that the power curve is flatter, come on sooner and runs out farther on both ends than it does with a fixed length single diameter header. That was Yamaha's statement of its purpose, and it's exactly what the FMF unit does to my bike. The fact that it reduces noise by one or two db is incidental.

The European model has one, but the muffler is INSANE long.

It cant be like the FMF because they have a patent on the design. Its done for noise and nothing else. It does not come on the US models. If it was for performance wouldnt the most important segment of the market get it std?
