help 650r T-4

Thunder Chicken = You guys are to loud! Why would you guys want all that power? The XR650R has more then enough power. Be real good or we will lose our riding area! What a bunch of bull! Just because you can't ride at a level that needs more power, or you don't like to push the limits doesn't mean everyone has to live by your humble opinion. California...do I hear a challenge? ?

Hey Bruce, quit stirring the pot.??:applause:

SecretThunderAtlasChicken is just messin with Hill5150. ?

Plus he is correct about losing riding areas because of noisy bikes, it is the number one reason and always will be. Those that do not recognize that are going to learn the hard way.

There are only a handful of guys that are going to be able to manage the wide open power range of such a loud pipe. None of which would be asking questions about it on this forum. His advice is valid and probably saved that dude a few bucks.?

However, &%$#@! do I know. :ride:?

my "ass dyno" told me to hold on and give it more gas to enjoy the bigger power once the exhaust was on.

I also do probably 60% of my riding at WOT in 3rd gear or higher.

The coolest thing ever was nailing a really rutted, mud holed, washed out, generally gnarly road in 3rd gear and having that extra grunt to get things straightened up after the rear decided the rut to my right looked like a better home then where it was.

But, I also wear earplugs when riding no matter what, so noise isn't an issue with me (or where I ride) :applause:

edit: this isn't the T4 pipe I'm talking about, but a Barnum's Pro exhaust system...

I almost got that pipe. He was still working on making it and I just couldn't wait. It can be just a little loud, not bad. I road his and it had a nice bark, not raspy like an open WB "E" series and not as loud but, close. I haven't heard one with his other end caps. do they reduce the noise much. Do you run the spark arrestor screen? The moriwaki has such a big muffler and so much packing, that it really takes the bite out of the noise but, I don't run a spark arrestor screen in mine; inless I am in the forest.

I just barely purchased a spark arrestor screen for it since the desert racing series that I am going to try and compete in this winter requires them. And installed it a week ago, now if only the damn clutch cable would get here before more snow flies :ride: so I can go try it and the new suspension out.

Didn't know they made other end caps for it :applause: I've talked to the people down at Barnum's quite a few times but never thought to ask them about other end caps, I bought it used from a forum member after he used it on a single race and decided it was too loud for him.

I do not agree. I am not bothered by your different opinions. Freedom is cool. I think the number one reason is they don't want bikes on the land. You might be right about the average rider but, I like to think that most on this group can out ride me. ? I have no problem with them trying and/or succeeding, it's the adventure that counts..

I wasn't stirring the pot......just adding to it?

The older I get the better/faster rider I was. That is a fact. Two years ago I was a much better rider then I am today. If I ever heal up I might be half as good a rider as I was then. Only four years and I am falling apart! ? But, I still wish for a little bit more power at times ? 680cc Honda XR and there are times that more power would make life easier. I ride with tons of people. Last month I rode with a guy that had "only" been riding for four years and it was that "only" thinking that was keeping him at riding like he just got his first bike that day. By the end of the day he was jumping 15' (out) off a good size jump. Changed his whole way of thinking and riding. Some go slow enough to enjoy the view ? some go way to fast to see it and have an adrenaline rush and sometimes crash, get hurt and go right back out and do it again. ? Some think going slow to see the view is a wast of time and some think it's stupid to be reckless. Both riders are cool to me but, I tend to only be reckless. Even all busted up and in pain I would like to hear a challenge from thunderchicken to a ride, what about it chicken? ?

The one I was showen by Barnum was going to come with three end caps. You could run it wide open (that is the way I tride it on his 680cc bike) or with the screen and different end caps. Call him and see what he says. It Baja 1000 time so it will be real hard to catch him. (pun intended)
