WR Street Legal Q

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. i've been looking at the crf450X's and the ktms, husky's etc.

It seems that the WR450 is a more reliable bike from what i've read on here for riding on the streets once in a while getting to the good backwoods stuff.

Is it worth making this bike street legal?

The dualsports out there don't interest me at all being so heavy and ugly.

I had a 2001 XR 650L and a 1998 Wr400. I rode the 650 in Arkansas, Missouri, Mexico(Copper Canyon) and Texas. I also rode it in the woods. The WR was so good in the woods that I wanted to ride it Dual Sporting also. I sold both and now I have a 03 WR 450 that I am in the process of Dual Sporting. The 650 in the woods was a tractor. Don't get me wrong it was awsome for dirt roads and blacktop but it was not made for woods. The WR was made for the woods so if you can Dual Sport it do it. It is the best of both. IMO

not sure were in bc you are but iam in coquitlam and just bought a 06 wr450 in which iam gonna motard it and dirt ride and i got it plated on the showroom before i left with it :banghead:

easiest way to do it, just bargain that into the deal.

Once you got the plate, you can just take everything off ya bike and keep it untill you sell it. Stuff like mirrors and indicators.

That is what we do here in Australia!

Hi bomax, i'm in Kamloops and that really pumps me up even more if you got it plated that easy! If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for youres? And what did you have to do to drive it out of the shop with a plate??

I don't know about where you are, but here in AZ all I needed to add was 1 mirror, a horn, and a single brake light switch.

Pulled a horn off a junk bike, and bought a kill switch($15) and wired it off the headlight power supply., and bolt horn to headlight mount on side under bars. not real pretty, but easy/functional.

Generic Dualsport mirror clamped to bars($16)

Brake light is already dual filiment, so splice one off, and just run a pair of wires to a pressure sensitive banjo bolt($10 I think, had a couple leftover from another project) on the rear brake, or front brake, or both.

Took all of 1.5 hours to do including replaceing the rear banjo bolt on the master cyclindar and bleeding the system back out, and cost less than 50 bucks for the parts.

otd door price is 9 grande cdn taxes and all the other crap...there are some limited 05's out there that are going for 7499 pls txs but there few and far between.even the 06's are a hard find right now so be quick if ya want one.

basically i went in paid for the bike they call the insurance agent,he came did up all my insurance for a year and away i went.one thing to keep in mind is its int he 750cc category,i got basic and theft with mine and was 1200 a yr with a 43%discount!basic with discount was 600.

yamahas nivis forms dont have the dreaded "off road use onlyz"on it so its easy.

dont get me wrong if a dealers never done it before then they may not know and youd be screwed i guess.its a fast going trend in vancouver right now..

Why would you put blinkers on if Ohio does not require them. It is not like anyone is going to see them flashing anyway as small as they would need to be to keep from breaking them off while on the trails. How often are you riding the road anyway???
