What do you guys pay for a YEARLY rate on a street legal 650R? What do the guys with L's pay?

I got a quote of $206/yr for liability and $335/yr full coverage, with a 2nd bike discount through GMAC. Is this compeditive?

$206 a year for liability? Zoiks... :banghead:

I am going thru Progressive, and for liability only on a 2002 YZF600R and a 1993 XR250R (BD DS kit), it is $80 for both bikes combined. Full coverage on a sport bike is obscene, so I opted for liability only on the YZF, and this really limits my horizons...ie: no trips to the movie theater or other risky locations for theft. It was like $2000/yr, and I won't pay for squids' mistakes/rates.

I am researching full coverage for the 650L, and will report what I find out.

You guys have it made. I'm paying, no joke, $745/year right now on mine. Yeah, my new truck is only $200 more/year. Reason being is that no one good insures motorcycles in MA. Therefore I went for an out of state carrier as they had "some" perks. My bike wasn't paid for at the time and the lienholder(good ole honda) required full insurance on the bike. Now $565 of that $745 is for collision. Therefore now that my bike is paid for I dropped the full coverage and it's only $212/year. I'm not gonna argue that. However, if someone knows of a decent carrier for motorcycles in MA that is relatively cheap, let me KNOW! THANKS!

I paid $475 for a full year of full coverage. I financed my L and the leinholder requires mass amounts of collision. I am covered through Progressive and my Nighthawk only cost $120 per year. It figures that once I am free and clear of finance companiues that basic insurance should be no more than $150 per year with a major carrier provided you have a clean DMV report.

I keep thinking that the "R" in any bikes name is what gets it pegged for the higher insutrance cost. The difference between my CB700 and a CBR600 is over $200 for minimal insurance. I wonder if the same thing is happening between the L's and the R's.

xrstamm, it might be worth trying to simply tell them it is a 650 regardless of which one it is.

I'm not sure if the "L" vs. "R" holds any water....but I'd be interested to know.

I have both of my bikes covered with Progressive with both comprehensive and Liability for 175/year. It was 75/year for the 650R for liability only and when I added full covered against theft etc.. it went to 150/year and with adding the 450X it only bumped it to 175. Such a deal :banghead:

My 04 L is $130.00 a year for full coverage with Dairyland. It was about half of what Progressive wanted to add to my car policy. :banghead:

I'm with Dairyland too. I forget the exact dollar figure, but it's WAY CHEAP (I think less than $100) for annual comprehensive coverage for my 02 Shadow Spirit 750 in CO. Of course, smallish cruisers are cheap to insure anyhow... :banghead:

ghoti--

How are you doing that for $130?

I just called Sentry/Dairyland and they quoted me:
$250 DED, no uninsured motorist, no alarm - $278/yr
$500 DED, no uninsured motorist, no alarm - $263/yr
$1000 DED, no uninsured motorist, no alarm - $225/yr

Single bike, 06 model

it's not just the rates you need to shop for ... I have had Foremost for quite awhile ... was $75/yr, liability only, but after I totalled my road bike,(full coverage on it), my rates shot up 55%, and I had to wrestle the bastards to the mat to get just about 70% of my bike value ... this from a 54 yr old rider thats never had an insurance claim in his life, and no tickets for the last 15 years, etc ... :banghead: insurance companies BLOW !
