Quirks are: the wiper switch is bad and doesnt always turn off, the headliner is drooping, radio ( stock) doesnt work. but......brand new tires, and battery, has the small 6 cyl. that has run excellent and gets 23mpg, is straight but has dull paint. always runs excellent.cant beat the deal.

Not exactly what you guys are talking about as far as a small truck, but I have an 87 GMC full-size short box that I am trying to sell. It has a 97 Vortec 350, newer trans & rear end, front end, etc. The only thing wrong is the paint.
asking 4600 OBO. It is on Craigs list (just type in 87 GMC)and the Truck trader if you want to see a pic

I just picked up a 1993 Ford Ranger extened cab with the 4.0 6cyl for 2,700. Thing has a 20 gallon tank and gets 24-26 mpg driving down the freeway to get to the track.
This is THE small used vehichle to get. Lots of them out there, run forever, and early - mid 90's can be had for 2,500 - 3,000 if you look (a lot will be near 4,000, but that just makes your resale better if you find one for under 3g)

It's tough to find a little truck worth buying at the 2g mark. It can be done but it seems like it takes a LOT of looking around.
I do love the old diesel rabbits. Not much power but good mileage.
Best of luck in search.

Get an old diesel Chevy Luv. Not pretty, but good little Isuzu plant gets the job done.

I too bought a ranger last month ( 97) and no way i could find one from 93 to 98 for under 3800....i must have looked at 10, tried to look at 30 of them but they were all gone or no return call...i bet i drove 150 miles up and down puget sound one day only to get to a dealer and find the thing sold first day, etc. several that day. finally found private party one. man a real scramble out there for 'em...if you are talkin under 2k or even under 1k....WOW, red hot i bet.

Personally I'd pass. 83' 4x4 lifted just sounds like trouble waiting to happen.
Have it looked at by a professional shop first.
