Convert overflow into reserve gas tank?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I just read it in a magazine. My thoughts have been confirmed. They suggested using the coolant overflow for a reserve gas tank instead.

Anyone do this yet. Just curious of any lessons learned.

Yeah, and I also added a boom that can be extended out the back of the bike to refule other bikes while moving, I can fuel most quads, some bikes and A-10 and F-16s while riding. Hehehe, my point is, the WR holds Sooo much fuel, the 3/4 quart or so is just not worth it IMHO. I rode 66 miles in mostly first gear and still have almost 1/2 tank left. Your better off with an aftermarket tank that holds like 3.5 gallons and gets you furter up on the bike anyway. If you have such a tank and are still looking for more gas for your rides, get a bud with a Grizley quad to haul a few Jerry cans ? .

I understand what you said, very funny too about the refuel. Can you do that in flight too...? LOL

I know it isn't much fuel, but I live in Phoenix, Az. and out in the desert, a little extra just in case isn't a bad idea. Plus the mod would be free and I could remove it if I was doing a moto or something.

This seems to be quite the issue lately. As I've stated before, remove it, put a KX500 cap on it and have no worries.

As for the inflight refueling... *grins*

That's an acquired skill...

ben, others here @ the forum have posted specific mileage figures eeked out of a full WR tank of gas & they are often remarkable. bottom line is that the WR tanks, even in stock form, hold a good amount of fuel & i can outlast ANY of my KTM or Honda riding buddies. i NEVER worry about running out of gas even on a long desert ride. i check it, of course, but never worry. on the other hand, my KTM 300EXC taught me to worry about overheating in the summer Arizona desert but i've never boiled over w/the WR. in summary, i like the little extra coolant over the already generous fuel capacity. otherwise, u might consider retaining the aux coolant resevoir & getting an aftermarket (larger) tank??? hope to ride w/u soon! bobwombat

i changed my overflow to reserve gastank about 6 months ago.i havent had any problems but i hardly ever use it.i get over 100 miles to my ims 3.4gl. and by the time that runs low i need to back for some preparation "H" and i usually just refill tank while one of my buddies is applying my hemmoroid creme for me.

Freestyle, you are so crazy....

Just in case I decide to do this, did you have to do anything special or buy anything? What were the basic steps and lessons learned?

?

Yeah I am working on the inflight thing but Im no Freestyle Moto X air time frequent flyer or anything. I Have however been working on straping a laptop with a DVD to my back to show an in-ride movie. Inital test have gone well, but every time I stop I get attacked by riders demanding crackers and peanuts,,,, so I may just nix that one.

For real though, if your in the desert, keep the rad res and just stick a quart of gas in a water bottle and attach a fanny pack to your handelbars, over the light, number plate or what ever you have up there. Thats what I did with my YZ. Youll end up with even more fuel and still have the over flow recovery protection. Oh yeah and its free too :D

As far as the hemroid cream,, thats all you freestyle :D,,,,, thats some buddy,,,,, LOL

put oneway vent valve[like used on gascap vent hose]on overflow bottle inlet, then put "T' in gastank to carb hose.run overflow bottle outlet hose thru universal shutoff valve to gas line "T'.the only problem ive ever noticed is if you open universal shutoff with more than half of tank in main gastank it flows into overflow tank.but it really doesnt hurt anything if you have overflow cap on
