do you think the Big Ruckus Headlight assembly would make a good dual sport rig?

do those sweet looking AMRA singletrack races.

Hengeveld was here for last weekends AMRA race on his 450X.

AMRA is putting on the best and tightest races in the Southwest. :banghead:

I'm thinking of checking out Tecate this year. My 650 has been moved into a dual-sport role as well.

yeah, i heard henge went out there and OAed the race.

i'll be heading your way probably in the early spring. we'll see what works when AMRA publishes their 2006 race schedule.

i'm looking at my entry for this year's tecate hare scrambles right now. i just have to write the check and it's going in the mail...

what bike are you racing?

btw, if i want to try the ruckus lights, i assume i need to buy the "classic" dual sport kit from BD...correct?

I've been using a 300exc. I'm still trying to dial it in. I may go back to 4t and a 450X if I can't get a better feel for it.

No idea on the lights. My 650 has the glass lens, a rewound stator, and an H3. It's been good so far.

In AZ the laws are a little different than the Republic of Kalifornia.

I have a mechanical brake light switch off an old Honda street bike(resistor by-pass). A mirror and a squeeze horn.

That is all that is required, aside from insurance($40) and registration fee($70).

I have my 300 plated as well.

I think i'm going for the ruckus lights as well but i'm going to build a guard for the lenses. i don't think they would last more than one or two rides without rock holes in them

I think that'll look good. You could also hide the wiring harness with some kind of mesh since it would keep things in place and hide the wires.Meanwhile you can install a Silvania Brightstar bulb (h3)it costs about 15-20 bucks at pep boys, and i can tell you theres a big diference from stock.Good luck with your mod.

By the way .I forgot to mention that the mesh is the plastic one tha comes in tubes and is used sometimes as a shipping protector.Should look good.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Baja Designs sells a wire mesh cage for the headlight. I got it when I bought the glass lens and have no cracks or dings in it. Makes cleaning the lens a pain.

I recieved most of the parts for the Ruckus headlight in the mail yesterday, i need to work out a mounting system of sorts (i'd prefer to do a hardmount, nothing zip-tied to the forks) If i ever get time to actually work on it i'll post some pics. but it wont be anytime soon. Too much work and not enough play time.

I haven't checked into it yet, but it should be OK, I think.

It'll be a fun mod to do regardless!

You know what would be even cooler than using the Big Ruckus lights in the dark in the desert? Using the Big Ruckus itself! Somebody PLEASE take it to Baja!! :ride: :ride:

ThunderChicken,

Unfortunately, I have to say no, it isn't functional yet. I need some uninterrupted garage time to put it all together. I have all the necessary pieces except for some small brackets I will have to build. I did have the lights hooked up temporarily, and the stock stator seems to be powering them ok idling in my garage, but I havent done any voltage testing to see for sure as I cant seem to locate my stupid multimeter. I think there is a slight drop in brightness at idle, but that may just be me, as the prettier half says she doesn't see any difference at all (could be patronizing though... *L*). However, holy cow those two 6" lenses with Silverstar bulbs in them are extremely bright!
This mod requires dismantling the bike seat/tank/OEM light etc. fabricating some brackets, a bit of minor wiring changes, then putting it all back together. While I am at it, I also decided that I am installing a headlight/taillight modulator so that adds some wiring time. I wish I did, but right now I just don't have that much time at one shot (and I need to keep the bike usable as a daily driver besides, so cant tear it down for days on end) It will likely be a winter project. :ride:

New baby arrived and takes 99.9% of my time now
