'06 Kayaba SSS Forks On An '04?

With the debut of Kayaba's all-new SSS (Speed Sensitive System) suspension on all '06 models, it gets me wondering whether or not I could get my hands on a set and fit them to my '04 250F...seeing all the magazine's are raving about how good they are.

Opinions? Will it fit? Worth it? Cost? Thanks.

get an Ohlins Fork if you want to get the new Kayaba forks. Dirt Rider did a test last year with the kx250f and the air oil seperate fork cost them 1,100 bucks. I think the Ohlins were only 1500. I think the kayabas are pretty overpriced for stockers.

i would just get a revalve from RG3, they are suposed to be the best. pro circuit is notorious for making stuff too stiff for the non-pro.

why don't you check the fork diameter of the yzf and a crf. check out some dual chamber showa forks on ebay from a crf250/450 and put them on. you will have a better chance of finding them used to save some money. you may have to run a honda front wheel. i have seen it done, i just never asked what it took to do it.

The Honda Showa forks won't work, they are 47mm. The Yamaha KYB forks are 48mm.

The '06 SSS forks will work on an '04.

what diameter are 03 yz250f forks? you could always change the triple tree if 03 yzf are 47mm.

03 are 46mm. there is still a possiblity of just using honda triple trees and forks & wheels.

Sorry, don't know a price. We don't have our '06 price tapes or microfische from Yamaha yet.

48, 47, and 46 are the inner tube diameters, which don't have anything to do with whether they will fit the Yamaha clamps. You need to check the diameter of the fork upper tube at the point where each clamp goes, and check the distance between clamps (which should be close enough). There is the possibility that the Honda clamp would bolt directly into a YZF steering head, but if not, the YZF steering stem may either be interchangeable into the Honda clamp, or the clamp modified, the stem modified, or a custom stem made. One of those will work.

It won't be real cheap, though. I have heard of the '99 RM250 Showas being used, also.

Other than the calmp diameters, the axles are different, the brake mounts are different, so other than the Honda clamps, you woud als need a Honda frontwheel, axle, and brakes...not worth it. The Oehlins tip is a good one, very good value for the money, and they last a long time, I have mine on various Yamahas in 46mm since 1999, changedonce the seals, and the valving range and potential is huge. Still better than a stock CRF 2006 Showa, by far, after all those years: plusher and more control.

i did not know that, thanks. i figure if everyone is kyb is changed there fork design for the 05 to almost mimic the showa unit, then why not go with the original. i was just thinking that if you could find a used front end on ebay, you may be able to same some money. i'm always on to be different, so the idea sounds good to me.
