A few of us went to the Green Dots trail system last Sunday NE of Ellensburg, or East / West Nanuem as it was called by the map.

The riding was spectacular, great views, good elevation changes, from the Columbia all the way back up into the tree line, 50 miles all said and done when finished. Saw a few hunters setting up camp, a little bit of wildlife. We are definitely hooked on the area and plan on making many trips back.

However, there has got to be a @#$#$ way to get in there easier. We headed East on Old Vantage HWY and turned up Parke Rd and followed that miserable dirt road. We stopped right before the Green Dots and rode the rest of the way.

What way do you guys go in? We saw some nice rigs up top so there has to be an easier way than a bumpy 3mph road in.

There are three access points on the old Vantage Highway from Vantage to the top of the hill. The upper most access point brings you in on a pretty nice road right even with where the tree line begins.

Then there are access to the Green dots up Cooke, Coleman and the various other canyons also located off the old Vantage hwy but much closer to Kititas and Ellensburg.

There are three Green dot areas and we are only talking about the one on the North side of I-90. There are two other green dot areas located on the South side of I-90.

That is a tremendous amount of riding to be had by any kind of ATV or dirt bike or 4x4. Some 300+ miles of roads waiting to be explored.

Can someone scan a map to show the actual access points to the areas N of I-90. I'm not familiar with the road names that lead into the canyons.

Unless the roads are named for the canyon's?

Thanks OMT,

I remember you posting pictures of the access point that you used. My group wanted to follow the map instead of trusting me what I read from a forum post. Now they are wishing they listened to me.

So from Kittitas, head E on Old Vantage HWY until you start dropping down. In that general vicinity is where you turn in? You still have those pictures?

Heading E. on Old Vantage Hwy you would come to the upper most entrance first :prof: . This entrance is immediately before you begin to drop down in elevation. It does not say it is an entrance into the Green dots. After you go throught the red gate close it behind yourself. Then follow the road up the hill and a little ways past the towers road (look closely at the gate picture you can barely make out the towers) their will be a right hand turn over a cattle grate. Turn in there and park. You will be able to see the tree line in the distance. Here is a picture of the entrance and the parking area:

The next two entrances in order as you head East on the Old Vangage Hwy.:

Oh yes, the canyon roads are named after the Canyons. You just need a map to find them.

Awesome response OMT....

How is that area in the winter? I could imagine snow at the top area, but the bottom area could be ok.

Most years the snow line is in the timber well into November or December. If there is too much snow on the Green Dots, Mattawa is still ridable. :applause: Last year it was January.
