Well, I was raving about how much better my 91 DR650 was running with the carb cleaned and the new jet kit (Dyno Jet). I followed the instructions and put in the 160 main to go with the Supertrapp exhaust. It ran great for a day then started to run poorly again. I recleaned the carb and found a bunch of crap I missed in there. It has been running better. However, in the morning, when it is cold, the float bowl overflow pours gas out. In the afternoon when the ambient temp is higher, it doesn’t. It is also running fairly rich which is affecting the idle. I just changed the jet to the 155 and replaced the float assembly o-rings. Someone on the thumpertalk site thought that they might contract when cold and let fuel flow through. Sounded plausible but wouldn’t it leak just sitting there? Like I said, new jet and fired up fine. Even sounds like it idles better. But fuel still pours out of the float overflow. What else can it be?? The float valve appears to be in good shape and the passage is clear. I don’t want to dump more money into this problem if it won’t help so I am reluctant to buy a new float assembly.

The float height is set at .600 right now. If I understand that right, that actually keeps the level in the bowl lower so I assume it would be better that resetting it to .580 or lower right?

Also, the 160 main seemed to bog pretty bad until I got it opened up most the way close to 5000 rpm. I have the fuel screw out at 1 turn. I am hoping that the 155 main cures the bog but I am lost on the overflow.

Any suggestions??

Nathan

Fuel is getting past your needle/seat. This is either because of a worn needle/seat or improper float level (or damaged float).
