Just wondering if anyone has installed the Keintech high compression piston kit or an equivalent in a DR650? I have been wondering if installing it would seriously hamper the reliability of the engine? Does it do much to improve the output of the motor? Does premium gas have to be used? Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

No experience with his particular kit, but i've read you need to run premium. I put a wiseco hi-comp piston in my old 350 before eventually doing the big bore and it seemed to give it more snap throughout though. I think it says on his site that it gives a few hp as well(nothing wrong with that). These motors are pretty stout, i regularly top mine out for several miles and she holds together quite well.

They used to run at a slightly higher compression back in '93 / '94

Back then they produced a few extra horses as well.... so it's problably
not a bad thing to do.

I am thinking on changing carburator, put in a better camshaft and high compression piston kit. I haven't decided yet if I want to do that or change bike :-)
I would really like some extra hp in the low end.
I also want to point out that if you do something like this you need to service your engine more often, then it should not be any problems to make it last. Change oil et cetera.
