Well it seems that the DR was waiting to hit 13,000 miles untill it ran up to par. It hung around 12,500 forever. Well this morning at 8:43 a.m. in a twelve o'clock wheelie it turned over. 13,000 miles!!!!! :ride: :ride:

not far behind ya..... 12,450 on the odo on my '97. hope it gives me that many more. i recently changed the cam chain and sprockets. when i was done, i had a couple beers with the old chain and sprockets...we talked about all the places we had been together, the hare scrambles we entered in that one time, the many cases of monkey butt, etc. etc. etc.

That's awsome. How many sets of tires have you gone thru? Have any favorites after all those miles? Time for another 13,000.

Congratulations!! :ride:
Mine passed 14200 today on the way into work. Still going strong.... but I
think it's devloping a ring rattle. Maybe I'll have it rebored and take it to
1st oversize with a fresh piston, rings and small end for Christmas? :ride:

Now you guys are really getting to me.
I have 12,700 on a 2001 dr650, I put 11,600 on it since I bought it spring of 2004. The bad part is in the last month it has gone 0 miles as it is in the shop for a base gasket. I will never let the lure of a reasonable price sucker me into letting a shop work on my bike. I guess I need to learn everything separately, I learned 15 years ago to never let a "mechanic" touch my MT bike. Not sure why I thought it would be different on this animal. :banghead:
Oh I'm REAL happy for you all out having fun on your DR's - just kidding

I've got most of you beat, 16,231. It's a 97 that i got in June this year when it had 8,500 miles. I haven't ridden hardly at all in the last month and a half or so or i would have demolished 10,000 miles in 6 months.

tires....probably around 30, approx. 60 quarts of oil, one seriously hurt knee that resulted in arthroscopic surgery, a broken wrist, many cuts, scrapes, burns, bruises and sore shoulders and one pissed off dog that ate gravel when he came after me. longest nonstop ride (excluding gas stops) was 250 miles....monkey butt lasted for a couple days after that. i just got back from a "hooligan" urban dualsport ride, saw three other DRs in the course of a 48 mile ride! found a homeless person "tent city" down near the river, explored an old trail in the middle of town and cruised the no man's land between some railroad tracks for about six miles.

Very cool. I'm at around 4700 miles since late April. I should be hitting 13,000 sometime next summer. ;-)

12,000 of those miles were between purchase in april of '97 and october of '99 when i rolled it into my parent's barn, convinced that i was never gonna ride again. rolled it out of their barn in august and have been having a blast ever since!

250 longest nonstop? Try 584. Actually, no monkey butt - those Corbin's are darn good. 'Course the next day I did 486 and followed that with a nonstop 482. On the other hand I only have 10500 on my 97.

250 on a '97 DR350se with a stock seat was all i could take......i rode the last ten miles standing up! i think someone made a gel seat for the 350, haven't investigated any since i started riding again. the seat could stand more foam as it is only about 1" thick where i sit (where the goofy strap used to be). i can scoot up on it but the position gets cramped there....my boys don't like it too much! a taller seat would help straighten out my legs a little also....worn out knees find a hard time "unfolding" to a standing position!

My Dr650 -97 has about 18000 miles on the clock(29000 km).
I have just left it at the shop to change the cylinder gasket (known problem :( )

Otherwise it runs great...

A friend of mine have a KTM 640 Adventure -98 with 40000 miles on it (64000km). It runs without problems...

Man I hope so! I've got 13,500 on my '05. If I don't get 25k out of it I'm getting my money back. I'd like to get 100k before a complete engine rebuild.

Durability is not a problem. I just finished reading a ride report on < www.advrider.com > writen by "snowrider" Aaron. He is a big guy,300lb.s with about 50lb.s of gear who rode his new DR650 from Wisconson to Alaska hitting back roads, dirt roads ,trails, up there. Then he heads south to Baja Mexico before finally wandering his way back home! Over 12,000 miles in just about 2 months!
No trailer,80 mph cruising, in all weather, all DR!
He entitles it "just another Alaska ride",yeh sure.
Makes me want to jump on my bike and GO!
You guys have got to check it out. lots of travel pics too. Go to the forum site and click travel pics and ride reports. May be one or two pages in.Its worth it.
Mike.
