This might be a stupid question, but here goes...When you change the oil and add the 1.0 L of new oil in the crankcase like the manual says, do you have to also add oil in the top of the frame? If not, how does the oil register on the dipstick? The manual doesn't mention anything about adding oil to the frame, but that's where the dipstick is, and it recommends to drain the frame during the oil change. Is there a sump that sends oil to the frame?

You fill up the crankcase with the prescribed amount of oil and start the bike, let it run for a few minutes while the system distributes the oil throughout the system, then you check it. :banghead: Pretty sure that the manual describes this.

Different from the 400's and 450's.

Sit down and have a good look at the front of the engine and follow the tubing that goes from the engine to the frame.

When you do your oil change, I wouldn't worry about pulling the screen in the frame, there is hardly ever anything at all in it anyway. It is a pain in the ass to get out, too.

Just read your manual, follow the steps, you can't go wrong with anything.

Where is the dipstick? I was expecting it to be on the inside of the plastic oil filler bung (or whatever you call it) but it's not.

(On a 2003 WR450F, if it matters)

On the frame just in front of the gas tank.
