What is my engine worth?

Recommended Posts

What does everyone think an engine from a 2005 Yamaha YZ450F is worth. The engine has about 20 hours on it, runs perfect, always well maintained. I'm thinking of parting out my 2005 YZ 450 this year instead of trying the sell the whole unit. Might be a mistake but who knows maybe I'll make out!!! Just hate the hassles of trying to sell a used dirtbike. Any feed back would be much appreciated. I know people spend 1800 to 2500 to rebuild there blown up ones so I think at the very least it has to be worth $2000 if not a little more.

The same problem that makes selling the whole bike an issue exists for selling the motor only. How can a buyer verify the actual usage and condition of the bike or the parts?

I use the motors on a SuperKart and would pay the 2 grand for one that was "really" in good shape with low mileage/use. New ones are available for just over 3 grand, so it is generally not worth the risk to buy used.

Just my thoughts.

I parted out my 2000 WR400 on e-bay this year. The motor fetched $1000.00, not that bad, but, a Friend parted his 2000 DRZ and got $1400 for his motor. As far as the rest of the bike, I made out OK. Surprisingly, the wheels were the highest bidded items on the bike after the motor.

I was considering parting my 05 WR450 in a couple of month's on e-bay, but, I believe selling it whole will get more cash then in pieces at this point. I did well on the 400 because it was a 400, and 5 years old. Meaning it's value was say 1800 to 2400. It was easy to make more then that parting it out. I don't think I could part my 450 out for its current market value.

I'm not sure what it's worth but I am seeing more and more of this on e-bay but I would think that the hassle of dissambely and the piece meal method of getting your money would be frustrating. Just my two cents, good luck :banghead::banghead:

I agree 100%.I would have to make a substantial profit over selling the bike whole for it to be worth it.I hate selling a bike, and usually blow them out just to get it over with and move on to my new purchase.Your time is worth something.?

If you don't mind me asking, what did you figure you made total and how long did it take once you started posting the items?

Thanks
