Starting the 05 YZ450F, easy or hard?

Recommended Posts

yeah i agree

mine starts super easy even after sitting a while...

just turn the choke on, prime by pulling back the throttle 2 times... and it starts first kick!

and if not first kick 2nd for sure

and even when hot the only problem i sometimes have is if the bike is in gear... but if i take the time and put it into neutral... starts right up... otherwise 2-3 kicks

cant imagine starting could be much easier

It's always simple when it's straight up hot or cold. I can cold start the thing in one 97.4% of the time, give or take 10%. It gets cranky sometimes if it's at some odd intermediate temperature, but once you find out whether it wants things richer or leaner in those conditions, it will be consistent. Only when stalled or dropped is it ever more than 3 kicks, and the thing is, with auto decompression, you just kick; there's no "drill". It doesn't seem to want to start very well with its nose pointed up a hill, either, but that might just be mine. And, except for the weight of the bike itself, it bump starts like a 125.

My 99 Yz400 is so easy to start, even easier than my 98 KLX300 (with auto decomp) and it has manual compression relice, I wold guess the 450 es really easy to start, I rode a CRF 450 and it was like a 2 smoke to start, the Yz should be the same

I have an 04' and it is very easy to start. One time however the dumbass that I am, I left the plug in the muffler and tried to start it and kicked and kicked- the damn thing would not start I thought I fowled a spark plug. After I wanted to fall over and die from kicking the bike I realized what I had done and pulled the plug out of exhaust, it started on the very next kick! :banghead:

I am a kind of newbie rider. I was quite worried about this kicking thing and tried new bikes in the showrooms before picking out my YZ450. It is much easier for me to kick it than the CRF450 that I tried..

I am very confident with the bike and can start it after a fall in the sand.

I am 5' 6&1/2 " and about 150lb and 49 years old.. So it can't be too hard.. Bear in mind I can't get both feet on the ground at the same time.. hahah..
