Dented pipe

Recommended Posts

I don't remember who it was that posted how to get dents out of a pipe by filling it with water and freezing it.

Just wanted to say it works like a dream. I had a big dent in my FMF header right at the last part of the bend that went in half way to the other side.

Had to do it 3 times to get it all out.

Just wanted to say thanks to who ever suggested it. :banghead:

You don't have to fill the pipe, just enough to fill the area were the dent is about 3 inches above 3 inches below. My dent was right at the last part of the bend so It was easy to position in the freezer. I didn't cap it.

Had to do it 3 times but it got all the dent out.

There were some small dings that it didn't work on but they are not an issue.

OUTSIDE IN? SO ARE YOU FIILING IT WITH WATER OR WHAT IM CONFUSED NOW... :banghead:

You only put in enough water to fill the area with the dent and when you put it in the freezer it needs to be positioned so that the water rests in the dented area. The outer most water freezes first causing a seal and then as the water in the middle freezes it expands and pushes the dent out. :banghead:

Not sure if this is needed, and probably most already now this, but simply forgot. Water is the only substance (or one of few) whose density decreases as you cool it down below approx 4 deg C; hence the expansion that removes those awful dents in our pipes. That is why you have ice forming on top of the lake, but it doesn't freeze right through, otherwise, the fish would be in trouble!!

My parents live in the Okanogan. (vernon) They started playing golf around febuary... thats CRAZY for canada. Just means the riding season will be longer though.

I still think the world would be a better place if everyone rode WR450's to work and back. That would fix the smog problem.
