Top Speed for XR600R

Recommended Posts

you guys and your 87's hehe. i would say 85 depending on mods.....but that would be pure hell to your engine.

Only mods are a re-jet, air filter and trapp.

Definitely hell on the 'ol mill. Still noticeable pick-up at 85 though.

600R's only do 90-95? my 426 does 85 with stock gearing and still pulling hard. thats on hwy 78 at Ocotillo. are 650R's faster?

oh, and im saying that they only do 90-95 with stock gearing, not that that is all that they are capable of. i just thought that a 600R would have a higher stock top speed.

Sounds about right. 600R does around 85-90 stock, 400R does about 75, 650R will do 100 with the usual uncorking/jetting mods and stock gearing. YZ426 will do 96 with stock gearing and no mods. KX500 will do about 88 in stock condition. All measured with gps.

They get to those speeds REALLY quick!

I have an 1999 XR650L with 14-48 gearing, the same as the stock XR600R. It easily goes 80 and I figure it will go a little faster. It should be the about the same top speed as a 600R, mine weighs more but has 50 more cc's.

Mine's got similar mods...jets are both 128's (I have no idea what stock jets are) drilled air box, FMF power bomb pipe, powercore 4 silencer, K&N. What jets are you running? I was running down a powerline road in the High Desert, CA, full throttle, 5th gear for about 5 miles. I was just wondering how fast I was going.

Mantrasonica, what rear tire are you running? I'm running a Maxxis C6001 130/90x17. It grabs good but is wearing out quick. Knobbies are getting pretty rounded after 3 rides. I wouldn't mind having a bigger tire, but there's not many options for the 17 inch rim.

I'm running a 128 main in the primary and a 130 in the secondary. #42 slow jet (tried a #45 but it was too much, maybe this Winter I'll try it again).

My bike runs really strong in the high desert. el Mirage is where I dialed in the jetting. Runs real well at that altitude. I found that too many holes in the airbox killed the top-end performance, as did too many discs in the 'ol trapp. Two discs make a huge difference. Currently running eight with a stock airbox. Thought about trying 6 or 7 to see what happens. No real need though.

Now if my kick leg would hold out I'd be in business. The bike is a tough kick when I get tired.

I hear ya on the kicking...I have no idea what slow jet is in mine. What exactly does the slow jet do? I too was running a 130 in the secondary carb, but it was popping (flames out the back, past the spark arrestor) so I decided it was too rich. I put the 128 back in, drilled a few more holes in the cover, and it seemed a lot better.

I have an extra set of carbs that I sent to XRs Onlys yesterday to have rebuilt. I can't dial out my intermittent bogging problem, so hopefully they'll do a good job.

Where in Cali do you live? I'm in Yucaipa.
