450 engine ?

are 03 and 04 450 crank cases identical? will an 03 right side inner case fit on an 04. also do the case halves need to be replaced as a set?

they are the same and will interchange. However you should only change them in a set, if you have to use only one side make sure you surface both halves.

You can't mix crankcases, even if you surface them. The mating surfaces are not the issue. They are sold only in sets because the shaft bores are machined into the set while they are bolted together ("line bored"), and the shaft centers of one will NOT be the same as any other you bolt it too.

But, all YZ450F crankcases can be used interchangeably if used as a pair.
