***Interior Department Dumping Ground???***

***URGENT***URGENT ***

***YOU MUST TAKE ACTION BY TUESDAY IF POSSIBLE***

***NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY***

***DON'T STOP IF YOU RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE AFTER THE DEADLINE. IT MAY BE
POSTPONED. IT IS GO FOR BROKE TIME***

WILL THE INTERIOR DEPARTMENT BECOME A DUMPING GROUND for President Bush's
promise to appoint a Democrat to his Cabinet??????

The latest grist for the rumor mill is that Wyoming's former Democratic
governor, Clinton Administration ally Mike Sullivan, may be appointed
Secretary of the Interior!!!!

Sullivan was rewarded for his loyalty to Clinton with a plumb job,
Ambassador to Ireland. He endorsed Al Gore. Now should Bush and Cheney
reward Sullivan after he campaigned against them??????? What is going on
here?????

Sullivan is likely to keep many of Babbitt's appointees in Interior. For
example, Sullivan is likely to appoint fellow Democrat Kathy Karpan as
Chief of Staff. Karpan is a very liberal democrat who currently serves as
Babbitt's Director of the Office of Surface Mining.

Sullivan was a supporter of Babbitt's "Grazing Reforms". Otherwise known
as the cultural genocide of the rural West.

Sullivan will definitely appoint Land Grabber John Turner as head of the
Fish and Wildlife Service!!!! Keep the pressure up against Turner.

The point of electing Bush was to get the Babbitt crowd OUT of Interior,
not keep them there!!!!!!!

Right in Wyoming, Congresswoman Barbara Cubin has done a GREAT job in
Congress and is very knowledgeable about all elements of the Interior
Department. Rumor has it that she will take the job if asked - SO ASK!!!!

Why pick a Wyoming Clinton loyalist like Mike Sullivan when Bush can pick a
property rights advocate like Barbara Cubin?

And next door in Colorado is United States Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell.
He is FOR multiple use of federal lands, FOR private property rights,
well liked and popular with all sorts of different people. So let's do it,
Bush and Cheney - name him Secretary of the Interior!!!!

Senator Campbell also gave the best description of the Condemnation and
Relocation Act Land Grab legislation - he called it "socialism." Short and
to the point - that's what we need in government.

THREE ACTION ITEMS:

Wyoming is large in size, but a small community in population. You can
make a difference.

FIRST, somebody wake up Dick Cheney!!!! Dick Cheney, his wife Lynn (also a
great conservative from Wyoming), their relatives, high school friends,
whoever. Tell him that it is NOT OK to use Interior as a dumping ground
for the cabinet's token Democrat!!!

SECOND, get ahold of Wyoming's senior United States Senator, Craig
Thomas!!! He is an absolutely central person in this situation. He is a
member of the United States Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
That committee must approve Interior department nominees. If Thomas
speaks out against Sullivan, then he will be voted down by the committee,
or more likely, not be nominated in the first place. Senators give
deference to members who represent the home state of nominees.

So if Wyoming Senators Craig Thomas and Mike Enzi JUST SAY NO to Mike
Sullivan, then he is probably a goner.

GET TO SENATOR THOMAS, contact him in whatever combination of ways, and
tell him that the Interior Department should NOT be a political dumping
ground for Al Gore supporters like Mike Sullivan!!! If Thomas opposes
Sullivan and Land Grabber John Turner, those nominations will not move.

Call Senator Thomas at the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Then ask
for the office of Senator Thomas.

Senator Enzi is less of a factor in this case because he is not on the
Energy Committee. Rep. Cubin is less of a factor also, because the House
does not vote on cabinet appointments.

There are so many GOOD PEOPLE from Wyoming, like Thomas, Enzi, and
Cubin!!!

Why is President Bush going for the bad ones???

Good luck and thank you.

Thanks Tim.

Done!

Fellow dirt bikers you can use my letter as a template if you want:

Please pass along my concerns to those directly responsible for putting together the Bush-Cheney administrations ‘short list’ of nominees for the Secretary of Interior cabinet position. Various media sources have reported current President of the Conservation Fund, John Turner, as a likely candidate for the Secretary of Interior position. This individual has a proven track record to go against some of the fundamental cornerstones of personal rights/freedoms and the belief in personal accountability held by the Republican Party. Private land ownership and access to public lands are critical rights that have been severely impeded by the Clinton administration for the last eight years. The "National Forest Road-less initiative" and unilateral Presidential declaration of public and private lands as National Monuments and or protected wilderness areas threaten, and in many cases, have resulted in denying the public recreational access to lands that we once so enjoyed.

Please DO NOT consider Mr. John Turner for any position in the Bush-Cheney cabinet.

I would applaud nominations of the following individuals for the stated reasons:

Senator SLADE GORTON of Washington state. As a member of the Appropriations and Energy Committees, he has been a great supporter of private property rights and sharing the federal lands for both species protection and recreation, timber, grazing and mining. Unfortunately, he is leaving the Senate at the end of this year. However, the Senate's loss could be the Bush Administration's gain with Slade Gorton as Secretary of the Interior.

Congresswoman BARBARA CUBIN of Wyoming. Cubin has rapidly advanced to important positions in the House of Representatives, serving as a member of the Commerce Committee and having been just elected as a member of the House Republican leadership. She is an outspoken advocate for land owners and multiple use of federal lands. Fought against the CARA Land Grab when the chips were down and others were afraid to speak out.

Congressman RICHARD POMBO of California. Rancher, co-founder of the Citizens Land Alliance several years before being elected to Congress. Led the fight against CARA during the floor debate in the House of Representatives, and proposed amendment to protect private property holders. Held hearings across the country exposing flaws in the Endangered Species Act. Lifetime 100% score with the League of Private Property Voters.

I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration of my opinions. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast that immensely enjoys hiking, camping, mountain bike riding and off road motorcycling in many of the areas threaten by the agenda of the current administration.

Thank you,
