07 WR450 Fuel Injection

Recommended Posts

I just got my Oct issue of Dirt bike magazine, and there is an article on a gas gas bike with fuel injection. Yamaha already has Fuel injection on their Raptor 700. What do you guys think of Yamaha going with fuel injection for the 07-08 WR lineup? Do you think its a good idea, or just a few unnessessary pounds. Is there a demand for it? Comments.

I think it's inevitable with the new federal emissions standards being phased in for off road vehicles. I would think the WR would be a good choice as it would make meeting the standards a bit easier. Whether it happens next year or not it is probably coming in the not too distant future.

I agree Blue. I think fuel injection will change the industry forever. I mean they already have electric start on the bikes. Fuel injection would be easy I think. If yamaha does it in the next couple years I think it will be on the WR/YZ engines. Mainly cause they are about as high performance as they come. As for the aftermarket. It will be things like slightly bigger/smaller injectors rather than jets. Overall I think the next 5 years will be intresting as far as development of dirt bikes.

I'd be into it. It's not the elevation changes, it's more the extreme temperature changes I experience that make me wish for FI. It goes from 30 degrees in the morning to 85 in the afternoon sometimes riding in the spring and fall. The bike runs inconsistently with that much temp change. FI would cure that.

Additionally, the starting and overall performance would be improved. I don't think FI would carry that much of a weight penalty either. I say hell yeah on the WR. :banghead:

I have ridden a gas gas 450. That thing was so crisp and I haven't experienced

anything quite like it ever since.

Yamaha is toying with the injection thing, the raptor has a different version of the

XT660X "super motard", essentially a 2mm over bore and a reverse gear.

It is less expensive for a manufacturer gaining ADR complience on a new bike with Fuel

injection than carburation. This is why gas gas has it, and sherco has it.

Injection works on the road with the XT660X, if it works off road in the raptor 700,

I think we could see injection on the wr's some time soon.

I would like to personally be the first with a fuel injected WR!!!

If you ride a lot of different elevations it would be nice but I'm not too interested because I don't. Once the dealer got the AIS removed and re-jetted the bike runs perfect. I don't forsee the need for any further tinkering at all. Haven't touched it since, just gas it up and go!!

I don't get the handlebar thing. Every dirt mag review says something about the handlebars, but the stock bars are usually the first thing I take off and throw away. I'd rather new bikes came without bars if it would save me $50.

Either that or decent Pro-Tapers. : )

As for FI, it would be nice to be able to swap pipes to go between trail riding and open course without having to rejet.
